About 1768-PA3

The 1768-PA3 is a Power supply module used with the 1768 CompactLogix product family. This Power supply is manufactured by Allen-Bradley, primarily used to provide backplane power and user terminal block supply. The 1768-PA3 is designed for operation with AC and DC input voltages. For AC input, acceptable voltage range is 85-265VAC with operating frequency of 47-63 Hz. For DC voltage, the acceptable input voltage is 108-132VDC. The power supply modules continuous output power are 3.5 A for 24VDC backplane and 0.25 A for user terminal block at 90W and 0.25 A at 6W minimum. This power supply is provided with an internal Overcurrent protection with the use of an internally soldered and non-replaceable fuse rated at 4-6 A @ 28.5-36.7 A2 S. The modules maximum overcurrent protection is 15A. When wiring input supply to the module, recommended wire size is 14 AWG or 2.5 sq. mm, solid or stranded copper wire with insulation rating of 75 C or 167C or greater and maximum insulation thickness of 1.2 mm or 3/64 inches. For output wiring, recommended wire size range is 2.5 sq. mm or 14 AWG - 0.25 mm2 or 22 AWG, solid or stranded copper wire with insulation rating of 75 C or 167 C or greater, and maximum insulation thickness of 1.2 mm or 3/64 inches. Required termination screw torque is 0.6 Nm (5 lb-in). The 1768-PA3 is compatible for any 1768 CompactLogix module, especially CompactLogix controllers such as 1768-L43 and 1768-L45 controllers. It may also be used for expansion bankc where 1769 Compact I/O modules are installed. The 1768-PA3 is designed to withstand nominal inrush current of 25 A @ 85132V ac; 50 A @ 195265V ac and 25 A @ 108132V dc and maximum of 50 A @ 85132V ac and 80 A @ 195265V ac. It has an isolation voltage of 250V, Reinforced Insulation Type, input to system and 24V dc AUX, Tested at 4250V dc for 60 s 150V, Basic Insulation Type, 24V dc AUX to system, Tested at 2200V dc for 60 s. The power supply module is mounted to a DIN rail, along the 1768 CompactLogix modules. Proper spacing must be followed to ensure proper ventilation. Module space requirements are 90 mm or 3.54 inches of space to the left of the power supply; 90 mm or 3.54 inches of space to the right of last module in the bank and 105 mm or 4 inches of space on the top and bottom of the bank. Climate control devices may be also mounted within the enclosure with consideration to the Power supply and other modules thermal dissipation. The 1768 CompactLogix power supply works with the controller to power a 1768 system. The power supply distance rating in a 1768 CompactLogix system works differently compared to a a 1769 CompactLogix system. In the 1768 system, the distance rating pertains to the distance between 1769 I/O modules and the controller. In the 1769 system, the distance rating is the distance between 1769 I/O modules and the power supply.
The Allen-Bradley 1768-PA3 is a 1768 CompactLogix Power Supply. This module supplies backplane power to the 1768 CompactLogix rack and power to the front panel terminal blocks. It requires an input voltage range of 85-265VAC or 108-132VDC with an input frequency range of 47-63Hz.
