About 1768-M04SE

The 1768-M04SE is an Allen-Bradley manufactured Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) module used for motion applications. This module is a single slot module that functions as a Serial Realtime Communication System (SERCOS) interface module that belongs to the 1768 CompactLogix product family. The 1768-M04SE is categorized as a specialty module that is directly mounted to the 1768 supported slot as a local module. It may be installed along a 1768-L43 controller which supports up to Two (2) local modules and 1768-L45 which supports up to Four (4) local modules. This controller is compatible with SERCOS capable drives such as Allen-Bradley Kinetix 2000, Kinetix 6000, Kinetix 7000, and Ultra 3000 SERCOS servo drives. SERCOS (Serial Real-time Communications System) is an internationally recognized and approved communication protocol intended for motion control based on International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) standard IEC-61491. It is primarily designed for high-speed and real-time serial communication of standardized closed-loop data, using fiber-optic cable that are resistant to electrical noises. The 1768-M04SE SERCOS interface module is primarily used to for motion control applications specifically, control up to Four (4) drives. It supports a maximum of Three (3) consumed connections. The SERCOS interface module utilizes Fiber optic technology for faster data transmission and noise susceptibility. When installing Fiber Optic cable, the accepted bending radii are 25 mm or 0.98 inches for Plastic cable without a jacket; 25 mm or 0.98 inches for Plastic cable with a standard jacket; 40 mm or 1.6 inches for Plastic cable with a nylon jacket and 30 mm or 1.2 inches for Glass cable. Fiber Optic Cable Attenuation are 140 dB/km @ 650 nm for Plastic Cable and 6.0 dB/km @ 820 nm for Glass cable. Accepted Fiber Optic cable cladding diameter are 1000 m 60 m for Plastic cable and 230 m +0/-10 m for Glass cable. Required Fiber Optic connector for connecting to drive interfaces is an F-SMA standard screw-type connector with core diameter of 980 m 60 m for Plastic cable and 200 m 4 m for Glass cable. Fiber Optic transmission range is 1-32 m for plastic cable and 1-200 m for Glass cable. Fiber Optic operating temperature requirement is -5585 C for Plastic cable and -2085 C for Glass cable. The 1768-M04SE SERCOS interface module supports SERCOS Class B which is used for Position or Velocity with SERCOS data rate of 4 M or 8 M. Supported SERCOS operating cycle are 0.5 ms cycle time for 4 M Data Rate and up to 2 drives for Kinetix 6000 drives only; 1 ms Cycle Time for 4 M Data Rate and up to 4 drives and 0.5 ms Cycle Time for 8 M Data Rate and up to 4 drives.
The Allen-Bradley 1768-M04SE is a SERCOS Interface module. This interface module is used for motion control applications wherein up to Four (4) drives may be controlled. It can consume a maximum of Three (3) connections.
