About 1768-L45S

The 1768-L45S is an Allen-Bradley manufactured Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). This controller belongs to the 1768 Compact GuardLogix product family. This controller has an integrated safety functionality, designed for operation in safety process up to and including Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 and Performance Level (e) where the modules safe sate is the de-energized state. Probability of failures measured as PFD and PFH, system reaction time settings, and function verification tests fulfilling SIL 3 / PLe criteria are some of the safety requirements supported by this module. The 1768-L45S Compact GuardLogix controller has a built-in memory that amounts to. This controller features an integrated 3.0 Mbyte Standard Memory, used for standard controller functions and 1.0 Mbyte Safety Memory for safety applications. It has an embedded RS232 communication port that is designed to communicate with a variety of communication protocols and settings such as DF1 Point-to-Point, DF1 Master, DF1 Slave, DF1 Radio Modem, User (channel 0 only) and DH-485. Serial communication is limited only up to 15.2 meters or 50 ft. With increasing length of serial communication cable, the baud rate or communication data rate must be configured to slower speed. The 1768-L45S is capable of communicating with Human Machine Interface (HMI) devices such as Allen-Bradleys PanelView operator Terminals and 3rd party similar devices. With HMI devices, standard HMI tags may be accessed similar to standard controllers. It can also access safety tags, limited for monitoring function only. This safety controller is designed with a keyswitch mounted on the controllers front panel. This keyswitch is labeled as RUN, PROG and REM. When set to RUN mode, logic is executed. When set to PROG, the controller allows downloading of programming and logic execution is stopped. When set to REM mode, the controller allows programming and online edit and logic execution is continued. The 1769-L45S can be installed locally with 1768 I/O, communication and specialty modules. Up to Four (4) local modules is supported. Up to Three (3) expansion I/O banks for expansion I/O may be installed where maximum of Thirty (30) 1769 Compact I/O modules may be installed to act as remote I/O modules. Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) is used to connect safety input and output devices over Ethernet I/P network. Using this communication protocol, control and monitoring to the safety controller may be established. This controller may also be used with 1768-ENBT Ethernet communication module, series A, revision 3 and 1768-CNB ControlNet communication module, series A, revision 3. The 1768-L45S has a backplane current requirement of 2.1 A @ 24V, with 1768 backplane current output of 5.6 A @ 5.2V and 1769 backplane current output 2.0 A @ 5.2V. The Total 1768 and 1769 backplane current output is 7.6 A @ 5.2V. The modules Power dissipation is 9.5 W and Power consumption of 50.4 W. The modules physical dimension is 131.6 x 90 x 121.8 mm (5.18 x 3.55 x 4.80 in. and weighs 0.45 kg (15.9 oz).
The Allen-Bradley 1768-L45S is a Compact GuardLogix controller. This controller has 3.0 Mbyte Standard Memory and 1.0 Mbyte Safety Memory. It has an integrated safety functionality with integrated RS232 communication port.
