About 1768-CNBR

The 1768-CNBR is a ControlNet Bridge module that is embedded with Two (2) ControlNet ports for Redundant Media operation. This ControlNet communication module is typically used to increase the availability of the communication highway by means of automatic switching to the secondary trunk when the primary has failed. It belongs to the 1768 CompactLogix product family and supports installation to 1768-L43 and 1768-L45 controllers. This module supports communication speed of up to 5Mbps and capable of communicating of up to 99 ControlNet nodes. It is fitted with a Two (2) BNC connector and One (1) Network Access Port (NAP). This module supports Data messaging, Uploading and Downloading to operator interfaces, I/O bridging, Scheduled data transfers with the utilization of tag produce and consume, and Unscheduled Messaging. ControlNet communication uses an RG-6 Coaxial cable as the main ControlNet trunk. A redundant ControlNet network has a secondary trunk installed which replicates each connection of the other ControlNet trunk. The 1768-CNBR?s channel A is connected to the primary trunk while Channel B is connected to the secondary trunk. Each channels must have a dedicated ControlNet Tap and drop cable assembly and both ends of the ControlNet trunk must be closed with a pair of terminating resistor having a value of 75 Ohms. For connected messaging support, this module supports up to 64 connections where Five (5) controllers may be configured for rack-optimized, listen only connection to the module. With RSNetworx, ControlNet devices may be configured using IP address or Host names and network scheduling may be configured. With RSLinx, Communication devices, communication diagnostics, and communication between devices may be established. If used with 1768-L43, up to Two (2) 1768-CNB may be used while Four (4) 1768-CNB may be used if installed with 1768-L45. Adjustable hardware parameters include installation node, slot no., Electronic Keying, Request Packet Interval (RPI), Module Inhibition, and Controller reaction to module failure. This module is provided with Network Address Switches located at the side of the module for configuration of the module?s ControlNet node address. Up to address 99 may be configured which stands for the maximum ControlNet node in the network. Each module must have a unique address to qualify the configuration. When connecting this module to a redundant ControlNet media, the correct network must be connected to the appropriate tap connection. The channel of each partner within the same segment must be connected otherwise, if the connections are interchanged, incorrect display and communication error may occur. This module is equipped with Three (3) dual color LED indicators that visually provides diagnostic information and operation of the module.
The Allen-Bradley 1768-CNBR is a CompactLogix communications module from the 1768 CompactLogix family. This module is a ControlNet bridge module that enables a 1768 Controller assembly to connect to ControlNet network. This module has Two (2) BNC connector for redundant media operation and 1 NAP. It supports connection of up to 99 ControlNet nodes. This module supports 5Mbps ControlNet communication speed.

F.A.Q for 1768-CNBR

Q: 1. Can 1768-CNBR used for communication with PanelView operator terminals?A: Yes, the PanelView terminal must have a ControlNet communication module installed. Aside from PanelView, other supported devices are ControlLogix, Point I/O, PLC5, 1395, 1336 drives, PowerFlex 4, 400, 7 and 700 drives, and Encompass partner modul
Q: Can I install more than One (1) CNBR module within a single 1768 CompactLogix assembly?A: Yes, you can install up to Two (2) CNB modules with 1768-L43 and Four (4) CNB modules with CompactLogix 1768-L45.
Q: 3. What is the maximum distance of a ControlNet node from the trunk?A: The ControlNet node connect with the use of the ControlNet tap and drop cable. The drop cable must not exceed 3.28 ft in length.

PDFsupply Tech

The 1768-CNBR is a ControlNet communication module that supports redundant media. This allows the 1768 CompactLogix assembly to connect with a high- availability ControlNet network. With this type of network, a fault in the primary trunk will trigger an automatic transfer of communication to the secondary trunk without manual intervention. This cannot be accomplished if used with 1768-CNB which is used or liner topology only.
