The 2711P-RN6 module is an Allen-Bradley communication module. The 2711P-RN6 communication module is compatible with Allen-Bradley operator interface panels belonging to the PanelView Plus 6 700-1500 series. It supports RIO, DH+, and DH-485 communication. Separate communication ports are provided on the 2711P-RN6 module for the RIO, DH+, and DH-485 communication protocols, and each port is isolated. However, only one protocol can be used at a time. The DH-485 protocol is a network protocol commonly used in industrial automation and control systems that include Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The DH-485 protocol operates over a serial communication link using the RS-485 electrical standard, and it allows Allen-Bradley Panelview Plus 6 700 to 1500 operator panels with the 2711P-RN6 module to be used with other Allen-Bradley devices. The DH+ protocol is also widely used in industrial control and automation systems that include Allen-Bradley PLCs. The 2711P-RN6 module has status indicators that provide visual updates to the users and allow the users to monitor the module. When a communication port’s indicator is powered off, it means that the communication port is offline. When the indicator is blinking green, it indicates that the device is the only communication node on the network. When the indicator is solid green, it indicates that the device is online and is receiving tokens. When the indicator is blinking red, it indicates a duplicate node for the DH-485 protocol and a parity error for the DH+ protocol. Allen Bradley recommends Belden 3106A wire for DH-485 connections and Belden 9463 wire for DH+ connections. The electrical power to the operator panel must be disconnected before the 2711P-RN6 communication module is connected to it. ESD precautions must also be followed to prevent damage to the 2711P-RN6 module during installation.
