The Allen-Bradley 1734 POINT I/O system are Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) compatible components used for implementing simple I/O expansion to cost-effective distributed I/O system.
1734 POINT I/O modules are low density modules, available in Discrete Input, Discrete Output, Analog Input, Analog Output, POINT Guard and Communication and Specialty modules. POINT I/O modules are designed for independent selection of I/O and network interface. It has also a variety of termination options, providing a more fast and secure connection method.
Point I/O systems are highly modular with a small and compact assembly. This system is ideally used for cost effectiveness as the modularity allows replacement of a portion of the module assembly and are highly scalable which means, modules may be added in the future with minimum disturbance. POINT I/O modules supports DIN rail installation and capable of fitting in tight and minimal installation space.
Standard Discrete Input and output modules supports a wide variety of voltages such as DC, AC and TTL ranges, with module level diagnostics such as short-circuit and open loop detection. Analog modules support up to eight single-ended input and output modules with specific modules compatible for Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD), Thermocouple, resistance and millivolt inputs. Each channel of the analog module are provided with software adjustable input filters to improve the module’s performance especially with erratic or fast changing process variables.
Specialty modules supported by the POINT I/O system include Counter and encoder and absolute module for use in High-speed counting, motion and position control typically used in the manufacturing industry, Synchronous Serial Interface for device level communication, Address Reserve Module (ARM) for securing a specific slot for future use and to save configuration, and Channel IO Link Master modules for communication with IO-Link enabled devices.
Communication modules supported by the POINT I/O system includes ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet I/P and Profibus communication module. Ethernet communication adapters include 1734-AENT for linear Ethernet topology, 1734-AENTR for Redundant Ethernet communication; ControlNet communication module with catalog number 1734-ACNR with support for redundant ControlNet; DeviceNet communication modules such as 1734-AND, 1734-ADN(X), and 1734-PDN; and 1734-APB for ProfiBus communication.
Each communication adapter supports a maximum of 13 - 17 I/O modules or 10A field power limit. I/O modules are powered through the backplane. With an external power supply applied to a POINT I/O assembly, up to 63 modules or 504 channels may be assembled.
A complete and functional POINT I/O node is made of Four (4) components. These components include the I/O module itself, which holds the system interface and filed interface circuitries, Communication adapter or interfaces to allow communication to master / server devices, Power distribution modules used to provide system power to enable expandability and allow mixing of signal types and Terminal bases that provides wiring and field interface terminals to establish connection to field devices and instruments as well as power supplies and communication cables.
Point I/O systems are compatible for use with CompactLogix and ControlLogix and configured using RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000 Logix designer
