The Allen-Bradley module with catalog number 1734-VHSC24 is a POINT I/O module that functions as a Very High-Speed Counter module. It is a specialty module primarily used in interfacing counter, encoders and input devices with very fast switching frequency. The 1734-VHSC24 is equipped with One (1)-1 group of A/Aret, B/Bret and Z/Zret inputs and One (1) isolated group of 2 capable of 0.5 A at 24V DC. The 1734-VHSC24 is installed with a signal conditioner, function block and a counter between the process signals wired to the moduleÕs Removable Terminal Block (RTB) and the POINT I/O bus where data and command is transferred. The module supports a variety of operating modes such as Counter mode, used to read incoming single-phase pulse and return a binary count; Encoder mode used to process incoming Two-phase quadrature pulses then returning a binary count; Period/Rate mode used for counting internal clocks based on the ON period and returns a frequency; Continuous / Rate mode functions similarly to Period / mode with main difference of outputs are updated only at the end of the period for Period/Rate mode while Continuous/Rate mode outputs are updated continuously during the period. Another supported function is Rate/Measurement mode where pulses are read during the sample period and returns a frequency. It is also capable of operating in Pulse Width Modulation Mode (PWM) where a pulse is generated with modulated signal. The 1734-VHSC24 can be used to interface counters or encoder with signal input frequencies of 1.0 MHz counter and encoder X1 configurations, 500 kHz encoder X2 configuration (no filter), and 250 kHz encoder X4 configuration (no filter). The moduleÕs input channel is also provided with adjustable filters with filter options of 50 Hz, 500 Hz, 5 kHz, 50 kHz or turned off. Input filters are used to ignore processing of signals that are considered noises as these signals may affect the operation of the module. The 1734-VHSC24Õs has a 24-Bit binary format resolution with count range of 0 to 16, 777,215 that is stored inside a 32-BIT register or 4 Words. The module is used with 1734-TB Terminal Base or 1734-TBS wiring base assembly.
