About 1734-SSI

The Allen-Bradley 1734-SSI is a Synchronous Serial Interface Absolute Encoder module. This module belongs to the POINT I/O product category, primarily used for motion control applications. This module effectively integrate encoders installed on machine to implement accurate control of servo motors installed mostly in factory automation applications such as conveyor, line assembly, packaging and similar applications. The 1734-SSI functions by collecting data via the single SSI channel of the module, from absolute-position encoding sensors that supports Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI) protocol. Supported word length by the module is 4 bytes of data or 32 bits. The SSI features Gray or binary code data capable with gray to binary conversion with increasing or decreasing SSI count indication along Two (2) SSI word comparator values and SSI word latching with I1 input. When wiring absolute encoder to the module, the SSI module requires a cable type of UL CM/AWM 2464/CSA Type CMG FT4 or similar cable utilizing shielded twisted pairs for D+/- and C+/- connections while the I1 input can be separate from SSI cable. Specific SSI cable lengths depends on the data rate. If 125kHz transmission speed is configured, approved cable length is 320m or 1050 ft. For 250 kHz, approved cable length is 160 m or 525 ft, for 500 kHz appropriate length is 60 m or 195 ft, for 1 MHz applicable cable length is 20m or 65 ft and for 2MHz speed approver cable length is 8 m or 25 ft. The 1734-SSI module has an integrated I1 input that conforms to the IEC Type 3 voltage and current characteristics, sourcing type. This input channel has a minimum and maximum ON state voltage of 0V DC and FPV* -10 respectively, minimum and maximum ON state current of 2 mA and 5 mA respectively with nominal voltage of 4 mA (FPV=24V DC). The channelÕs minimum and maximum OFF state voltage FPV-5 and FPV respectively with a minimum OFF state current of 1.2 mA. The 1734 Synchronous Serial Interface Module is available in Series A, B and C. The most recent release, which is a series C module, supports 1734-ACNR ControlNet adapter, 1734-AND DeviceNet adapter, 1734-AENT Ethernet Adapter, and 1734-APB ProfiBus Adapter. The 1734-SSI has Module status indicator, Network Status indicator, Run status indicator, Up status indicator, Down status indicator, Comp status indicator and I1 indicator, This module uses an Eight (8) pin Removable Terminal Block (RTB) which can be a spring clamp or cage clamp type. The module terminals include a pair data terminals which are D+ and D-, located at terminal 0 and 1 respectively, SSI sensor terminals which are V+ and V- terminals assigned at terminals 2 and 3, single shield terminal located at terminal 4, I1 terminal located at terminal 5, Clock terminals which are V+ and V- located at terminals 6 and 7.
