About 1734-RTBS

The 1734-RTBS is a POINT I/O component. This hardware is a removable terminal block that is part of supply of 1734 Terminal Base Assemblies. The 1734-RTBS allow field wiring connection via the Eight (8) terminal spring clamp terminals. Spring clamp terminals such as the terminals of 1734-RTBS, is ideally used in applications that exhibits high vibration and shock. Compared to screw terminals that may tend to loosen connection by constant and excessive vibration, spring clamp terminals are not affected much by this mechanical disturbance. The install wires to the termination points of the 1734-RTBS, user only needs a small flat head screwdriver. The screwdriver is inserted to one of the openings of the terminal in a rocking motion, forcing the mechanical spring or clamp to open, making way for the stripped portion of the wire to go through. The wire is then inserted via the other RTB opening, all the way to the end of the stripped section. Recommended strip lengths of wire for this terminal are 16±1 mm or 0.63±0.03 in for 1 wire and 18±1 mm or 0.71±0.03 in for 2 wire connections. Once the stripped portion of the wire is completely inserted, the screwdriver is pulled out from the opening, allowing the spring to return to its natural or normal position. The returning action of the spring clamp automatically locks the wire into place. Spring clamp terminals are typically used to lessen time allocated time for wiring. Particularly with 1734-RTBS, the simple push-insert-pull action of the screwdriver and the wire is much faster compared to tightening and retightening of screw terminals. Spring clamp terminals also reduces cost of assembly as ferrules or lugs are not necessary unlike screw clamp terminals. Spring clamp terminals though, typically support only small wire diameters but compatible for use with solid or stranded wires. Use wire size range of 0.25-2.5 mm_ or 22-14 AWG with insulation of 75 ¡C or 167 ¡F, with maximum insulation of thickness of 1.2 mm (3/64 in.). The 1734-RTBS, similar to other terminal blocks are designed to provide a modular connection between the field devices and the POINT I/O module. Field devices such has input, output and power supplies are used with RTB. The RTB may be removed from the mounting base without the need of disconnecting the wires. Instead, connections are maintained to avoid rewiring and for faster insertion to a replacement mounting base. Though the RTB provides modular connection, it must be taken into consideration that removing and inserting wires may produce electrical arc which has the potential to damage the local or nearby modules. As much as possible, only remove the RTB if power is not present from the backplane or input devices. The RTB separates independently of the I/O mounting base and I/O module to facilitate rapid installation and commissioning of the system. To install the Removable Terminal Block (RTB) to the mounting base, insert the end opposite of the handle into the mounting base unit. The terminal block must be rotated and aligned to the mounting base until the RTB automatically locks into place. If an I/O module is installed before the RTB, snap the RTB into place on the module.
The Allen-Bradley 1734-RTBS is a POINT I/O Removable Terminal Block (RTB) with Eight (8) Spring clamp terminal. This terminal block is a replacement unit for the 1734-TBS.

F.A.Q for 1734-RTBS

Q: 1. What is the advantage of using a spring clamp terminal?A: Spring clamp terminals offer advantage in high vibration applications as well as wires are easier to terminate.
Q: 2. Where can I use the 1734-RTBS?A: The 1734-RTBS is used by POINT I/O modules. Specifically, it can be used as replacement RTB for the 1734-TBS.
Q: 3. What is the recommended terminal base screw torque for the 1734-RTBS?A: Torque required is 0.6 Nm (7 lb-in).

The 1734-RTBS is a POINT I/O Removable Terminal Block (RTB) that features Eight (8) terminals with spring clamp terminals. This terminal block, similar to other terminal blocks provide modular connection to field devices. Spring clam terminal blocks has higher resistance to vibration compared to screw type terminal blocks.
