About 1734-PDN

The Allen-Bradley 1734-PDN is a POINT I/O module. This module is a POINT I/O DeviceNet interface communication module, manufactured by Allen-Bradley. It supports installation of up to 17 POINT I/O communication module, depending on the backplane bus current draw. This DeviceNet interface module supports a wide variety of POINT I/O module to implement Remote I/O or Distributed I/O architecture. The 1734-PDN supports the standard DeviceNet communication rates such as 125K bit/s (500 m maximum), 250K bit/s (250 m maximum), and 500K bit/s (100 m maximum). To connecto to DeviceNet communication network, this module requires use of DeviceNet cable such as Allen-Bradley part number 1485C-P1-Cxxx where ÒxxxÓ represents the communication cable length. The 1734-PDN is composed of a DeviceNet connector for termination of DeviceNet cable, Module label where module information is printed, Interlocking side pieces for connection to adjacent module, System and DeviceNet power indicator, DIN Rail locking screw, Safety End Cap, Removable Terminal Block (RTB) and RTB removable handle. When installing the 1734-PDN, the module is recommended to be installed without power. Removing the module when power is ON may cause an electrical arc which may damage the module itself or nearby and adjacent modules. Additionally, the end cap must not be disposed as this component covers the interlocking pins for connection to the next module. Installing the end cap will prevent oxidation and corrosion of contacts as well as prevent foreign materials from penetrating the module. Similarly, wiring the module with an active power may also produce electrical arc which may cause explosion in hazardous areas. Ensure that power is not supplied before proceeding of terminating the signal wires. The moduleÕs input voltage rating is 24V DC nominal with voltage range of 11-25V DC DeviceNet specification. It has an internal Overvoltage protection such as reverse polarity detection. The module is also designed for an Inrush current rating of 6 A for 5 ms maximum. The module has a internal indicators to provide feedback regarding the moduleÕs operation. These internal indicators include System Power for POINTBus 5V power and DeviceNet power for 24VDC from DeviceNet. The maximum POINTBus Output Current is 1.3 A @ 5V DC +5% (4.75É5.25) with Power consumption of 8.0 W @ 25V DC and Power Dissipation of 1.2 W @ 25V DC. The moduleÕs environment specification include an operating temperature of -20É55 ¡C (-4É131 ¡F) with operating vibration of 5 g @ 10É500 Hz and shock of 30 g. The module, along other POINT I/O components must be installed in an enclosure that offers adequate protection to the external disturbances. To maintain the required operating temperature, install a appropriate climate control devices such as heater and cooler to maintain inside temperature. Each of the moduleÕs Thermal dissipation must be considered for proper module sizing. Vibration and shock limiting devices may also be installed to the DIN rail where the POINT I/O module is mounted to limit the effect of these disturbances. Operating the module within the required specifications contributes to a maximized operation lifespan of the module.
The Allen-Bradley 1734-PDN is a POINT I/O interface communication module. It supports transmission speed of 125K bit/s at 500m, 250K bit/s at 250m and 500K bit/s at 100m. Up to Seventeen (17) modules may be installed, dependent on the backplane bus current draw. This module is powered by a 24 Volt DC Input Voltage and support DIN rail mounting.
