About 1734-IK

The POINT I/O module with catalog number 1734-IK is an encoder and counter module. This is a specialty module under the Bulletin 1734 Product family manufactured by Allen-Bradley. It is a singe slot module that directly installs to POINT I/O terminal base or wiring assemblies. This module features a single input channel with 3-input phases such as A/A return, B/B return and Z/Z return in one (1) group. The single input channel is designed for operation with 15-24VDC Voltage range with nominal value of 24VDC, input current requirement of 6.1 mA at 15V DC and 10.2 mA at 24V DC. Input channels are provided with configurable input filters with settings such as Off, 10 _s, 100 _s, 1.0 ms, and 10.0 ms. Input filters are used to condition the sampling time of signals as well as to separate false signal transitions caused by electrical noises and mechanical wear and tear. Input filters must be tuned properly to enable the module to capture the true signal value. The compatible binary input frequencies are 1.0 MHz counter and encoder X1 configurations, 500 kHz encoder X2 configuration (no filter), and 250 kHz encoder X4 configuration (no filter). This module is compatible for installation with 1734-TB, 1734-TBS, 1734-TB3, 1734-TB3S wiring base assembly. Recommended wires for termination of signals are 0.25-2.5 mm2 or 22-14 AWG) solid or stranded copper wire rated at 75 ¡C (167 ¡F), or greater, 1.2 mm (3/64 in.) insulation max. Use of thicker conductors may not insert to the terminal base wire connection point. It may also increase wire resistance, affecting the input signal level. Counter modules are typically used in the manufacturing industry for counting of materials such as product output or rejects. It may also be used for totalizer function by integrating output pulses of metering devices for an accurate display of totalized flow of a material. Encoder function on the other hand is used in motion control applications, particularly monitoring the rotary position of the motor in degrees or calculating the relative linear motion. This is typically applied in material handling and conveyor applications where a particular action is triggered when a specific position or travel is reached. Similarly, it may be used in simple pick and place applications. The 1734-IK is built with status indicator which provides visual information regarding the moduleÕs operational status, network status and channels status particularly states of Input A, Input B and Input Z. These individual LED indicators may display Green, Red, Flashing Green, Flashing Red and alternate Green and Red flashes that conveys specific messages to the user.
The Allen-Bradley 1734-IK is a POINT I/O Encoder and Counter input module. This module has One (1) input channel in a single group of A/A return, B/B return and Z/Z return signals. This module accepts an input voltage of 15-24V DC.

F.A.Q for 1734-IK

Q: 1. What is the difference between the 1734-IJ and 1734-IK?A: The 1734-IJ is an encoder / counter module that operates at 5VDC input voltage while the 1734-IK operates at 24VDC nominal input voltage.
Q: 2. What are the operating modes of this module?A: This module supports Counter / Encoder / Period and Rate Measurement.
Q: 3. What type of encoders are supported by the 1734-IK?A: The 1734-IK supports absolute and incremental encoders, either single eneded or differential.

PDFsupply Tech

The 1734-IK is a POINT I/O module. It is a specialty module used as a counter or encoder interface module. This module accepts 24VDC input signals unlike the 1734-IJ that accepts 5VDC signals, typically from TTL circuits. In most applications, the 1734-IK is used as 24VDC is the more common voltage used in processes.
