The 1734-IJ is a POINT I/O Encoder and Counter module. This module features a single group of input signals A/A return, B/B return and Z/Z return. This module may be operated in Four (4) modes - encoder, counter, Period / Rate and Rate Mesurement mode. Encoder or counter module are specialty modules with internal signal conditioners, function block and counter circuitry. It interface the process signals, wired to the moduleÕs terminal base and the POINTBus which stores the information associated with the command. A POINT I/O counter and encoder module main functional blocks include Digital input and output interface, Counter ASIC and dedicated Microprocessor. Typical utilization of this module include motion control applications, industrial process counting, vibration and speed monitoring. This module may be directly installed to a POINT I/O rack, via POINT I/O terminal base 1734-TB or 1734-TBS. It interface via the POINT I/O DeviceNet Pass-through adapter with catalog number 1734-PDN or the POINT I/O DeviceNet adapter with catalog number 1734-ADN. The 1734-IJ accepts signals from devices such as encoder with single-ended or differential input types, Pulse Generators such as Turbine magnetic pick-up sensors for speed monitoring, , Mechanical Limit Switches and binary devices with switching frequency up to 1 MHz. Available modes for this counter are Counter mode which accepts single phase pulse which returns a binary count. Encoder mode accepts and process Two (2) phase quadrature pulses and return a binary count as well. Period / Rate mode count internal clocks on a specified period and return a frequency output. Rate Measurement Mode reads pulses during a defined sampling time and returns frequency information. Under General properties of the module, the module name and description may be defined, including the module series and slot number assignement. The module information allows online viewing of the moduleÕs status which includes minor and major fault. It also has a Fault Program action where the module may be configured to perform counter reset, return to counter preset value or load the defined value reset of the module when fault is detected. Detailed configuration of the counter is done via the Counter configuration section where options include a Counter, Encoder and Period / Rate measurement. Configurable filter settings may also be defined with available selection of 50 kHz, 5 kHz, 500 Hz, 50Hz and no filter at all. These input filters may be individually selected and activated via the tick boxes provide. Similarly, these channels may also be inverted. The input voltage compatible with the 17340IJ is 5VDC. The module count or frequency is a 24-bit binary number ranging from 0 - 16,777,215, stored in a 32-bit or Double Word register.
