About 1734-IB4D

The 1734-IB4D is a POINT I/O module with integrated short circuit and open circuit detection capability. This module is manufactured by Allen-Bradley, for use with the Bulletin 1734 POINT I/O product family. It is a Discrete Input module that is typically used to interface binary operating signaling devices such as pushbuttons, selector switches, limit switches, photo-electric sensors, reed switches, auxiliary contacts, timer contacts, counter contacts and other similar field devices. This module has Four (4) input channels, each compatible for 24VDC signal input. Individual channels are also provided with adjustable filters for both ON to OFF and OFF to ON transitions. This filter settings have 0-65535 µs. Each input is individually configurable in 1 µs intervals where the default value is 1000 µs. The integrated diagnostics of this module has an equivalent internal bit that represents open and short circuit states. These status bits support individual integration to computer-based control systems such as Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and other compatible control systems. This allows remote monitoring of this state as well provide an alarm and notification function, locally and remotely. This type of module is ideal for use in input devices that require a higher degree of monitoring or interaction or process with increased level of criticality. The 1734-IB4D supports sinking wiring configuration and compatible for use with any of the 1734 POINT I/O communication adapters. It may also be used with power supply extension modules such as 1734-FPD or 1734-EP24DC. For 3-wire input devices, a 1734-CTM may be needed to become compatible with the module and provide common connection. When configured, it produces a set of registers such as Produced Assembly Instance 101, Produced Assembly Instance 23, and Configuration Assembly Instance 103. The Produced assembly instance is a 16-bit register that is internally partitioned as Produce 0 and Produce 1. The Produced Assembly Instance 23 is an 8-bit register, with each register representing a fault that activates when open circuit or short circuit is detected. The configuration Assembly Instance is an 18-byte register that contain the input filter settings of the individual channels. This module is also provided with LED indicators such as Module Status for visually reporting the general state of operation of the module, Network Status for reporting the status of communication partner device and individual channels status for indicating the state of field devices. The I/O status displays the diagnostic capability of each channel. When the LED is OFF, this indicates that the field device is in an OFF state. If the LED display Yellow light, the field device is ON. If the LED is in solid RED, short circuit is detected while a flashing RED light reports that Open wire is detected. In both circuit fault detections, the first recommended step for troubleshooting is to check the terminal bases for loose wires. If the wirings are secured, loop checking or I/O wiring may be needed to properly locate the source of the fault.
