The Allen-Bradley 1734-IA2 is a POINT I/O discrete input module that features Two (2) non-isolated sinking input channels. Discrete input modules are one of the typical modules used in a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based control systems as it enables interfacing of discrete devices such as Switches, sensors, auxiliary contacts and other devices that operate in binary or ON/OFF mode. This module is compatible with AC voltage range of 65-132VAC with nominal input of 120VAC. It also has an ON-state current range of 4.0-8.5mA with nominal value at 7.5 mA. This module has a maximum OFF state voltage of 43VAC with maximum OFF state current of 2.7 mA at 43VAC. It has POINTBus current draw of 75 mA @ 5V DC, power dissipation of 0.35 W @ 132VAC and Thermal dissipation of 1.19 BTU/hr @ 132V AC. The 1734-IA2 is installed to a terminal base or wiring assemblies 1734-TB, 1734-TBS, 1734-TOP, or 1734-TOPS. The moduleÕs grounding is established via the chassis ground and DIN rail connection. It is advisable to use a DIN rail that is made of good conductive material particularly yellow chromate or zinc plated DIN rail. This ensures that intermittent grounding connection is prevented. Other DIN rail materials like plastic will not aid in establishing ground connection while material that oxidize or corrode may exhibit good conductivity from the start but may diminish due to the effect of corrosion and oxidation. It is defined in the I/O configuration of the programming where several configurable parameters are available for modification. This module has a small form factor and occupies only a single slot of the POINT I/O assembly. It may be installed with any 1734 Communication adapters as well as installed with system expansion power supplies and termination management modules. Install as many instances of this module as needed until the control requirement is met. One POINT I//O assembly may contain the same of module or a mix of module depending on the design. A single POINT I/O rack may be installed with 63 modules. Though the 1734-IA2 may only be used in AC signaling devices, it is also a suitable replacement for DC input modules. However, I/O or hardware reconfiguration must be done to match the replacement module as well modification of the input circuitry needs to be modified particularly, the addition of interposing circuitry which is typically accomplished with the use of a relay with a DC coil and AC rated contacts. This module creates 1-Byte of register or 8-bits where bit 0 and 1 are reserved as the moduleÕs input data image. This data table is being accessed by the communication adapter via the POINT I/O bus and passes the data to the master controller by means of the communication protocol.
