About 1734-APB

The Allen-Bradley POINT I/O module with catalog number 1734-APB is a ProfiBus communication adapter module. This ProfiBus adapter functions as a slave device that manages transfer of I/O data available from the POINTBus to the ProfiBus network where the Master device such as a ProfiBus scanner of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with ProfiBus communication port is connected. It also functions as a ProfiBus master at the same time by communicating with the local POINT I/O modules. Up to 63 POINT I/O modules can be installed with this adapter. The default capability of the 1734-APB supports up to Fourteen (14) modules only, depending on the Current draw. To maximize the expansion capability, install system power modules with catalog number 1734-APB or 1734-EP24DC. The main purpose of the system power modules is to add POINTBus current for powering up more module. Depending on the type of modules installed and the individual POINTBus current draw, a number of system power module may be required. Typically, at least Two (2) system power modules allow the user to maximize the I/O feature of the communication adapter. The communication adapter is the starter module of the POINT I/O rack. It resides at the leftmost side of POINT I/O rack. POINT I/O modules installed along the ProfiBus communication adapter support Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP). Inserting and Removing POINT I/O modules shall not interfere communication of other module to the 1734-APB and the transfer of data to the Master ProfiBus device however, the module that shall be inserted back must be the same catalog number as to the one removed or replaced. If more than 1 module is removed, the modules must be inserted back to their corresponding places. The communication adapterÕs node address is set using the provided Two (2) position Thumbwheel switches. Valid settings range from 01-99. The 1734-APB is fitted with LED indicators to report the status of operation of the device. Specifically, these LED indicators are intended to report the status of Communication Adapter, ProfiBus link status, POINTBus status, System Power and Field Power. The indicators may display a pattern or sequence which should not be interpreted as fault. If self-test fails, the module gous to a faulted state which can be corrected by a power cycle otherwise, the module begins to perform the desired and configured operation. The embedded connector of this module is a 9-PIN D-Sub connector, complying to ProfiBus interface standard. If the Communication adapter is the last node in the network, the terminating resistor resinding at the ProfiBus connector must be switched ON to terminate the ProfiBus network. If this is not done, an erratic communication may be experienced or communication cannot be established at all.
The Allen-Bradley 1734-APB is a POINT I/O communication adapter used to enable communication of a POINT I/O rack to the master controller. It has One (1) ProfiBus interface, supporting up to 12Mbits/s data transmission speed. It supports Daisy-chain topology and supports up to 63 POINT I/O modules.

F.A.Q for 1734-APB

Q: 1. What connection topology does this module support?A: ProfiBus network is based on RS485 standard. It supports Daisy-Chain topology.
Q: 2. Can I have this module report to multiple masters at the same time?A: No, a ProfiBus slave may only report to a single ProfiBus master in the network.
Q: 3. Can I install this communication adapter to a DIN Rail?A: Yes, DIN rail mounting is the most common installation method for this module. Use a Zinc plated or Yellow Chromate DIN Rail.

PDFsupply Tech

The 1734-APB is a Profibus communication adapter that supports up to 12Mbit/s data transfer. This module only supports daisy chain topology and capable of communicating to one master device only unlike 1734-AENT where simultaneous communication to different controllers can be achieved. This communications adapter is ideally used for communication in the factory floor level due to its rugged design.
