About 1734-AENTR

The 1734-AENT is an Ethernet communication adapter module with Dual Ethernet port that is used for implementing High-Availability Ethernet communication network. This module is manufactured by Allen-Bradley under the 1734 POINT I/O family of modular Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) components. As a communication adapter, this module enables high speed transfer of POINT I/O data residing at the POINT I/O Bus to scanners and controllers in the network for use in logic processing and execution. It interfaces POINT I/O modules and enables I/O data transfer from the POINTBus to the scanner or controllers within the Ethernet network. The 1734-AENTR feature a dual Ethernet communication port, configured as embedded Ethernet Switch capable of auto-negotiation and supports data transmission speed of 10/100 Mbits/s in half or full-duplex mode. This communication adapter is capable of being installed in Ethernet network arranged in Star, Tree, Daisy Chain or Linear and Ring topologies. It requires use of Category 5 or Category 6 Shielded or unshielded communication cable with RJ45 connector installed on both ends. A single Ethernet node may reach up to 100-meter communication distance. In actual practice, it is not advisable to maximize this length. Should longer distance is required, a single Ethernet connection may be extended with the use of an Ethernet switch or by converting the media to Fiber Optic or Wireless Technology. Both these technologies are capable of covering longer distance with minimum signal loss. This module has a variety of status indicators such as 3 red/green status indicators (on CPU) to indicate Module status, Network status and POINTBus status; 1 green/yellow status indicator on CPU intended for Network activity of Ports 1 and 2. It also has One (1) green status indicator on CPU for Network activity and Two (2) green power supply status indicators on DC-DC Converter which indicates the status of the System power (5V DC to POINTBus Out) and Field power (24V DC from Field In). IP address assignment is defined using the provided pen push thumbwheel. These switches are initially set to 999 and DHCP enabled. There other methos to set the IP address of this module including the use of a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) such as the BOOTP-DHCP utility of Rockwell Automation. Another way is to retrieve the IP address with the use of a non-volatile memory. This module supports installation of 63 POINT I/O modules. To reach this maximum module capacity, a minimum of Two (2) 1734-EP24DC or 1734-EPAC system power module may need to be added to increase the POINTBus current in able to power up the extended number of modules. The 1734-AENTR supports sending and receiving IP messages encapsulated within the defined standards TCP / UDP and I/P protocol. This module has simplified configuration as it does not require network scheduling, no routing tables to be defined while capable of communicating with multiple processor at the same time.
The Allen-Bradley 1734-AENTR is a POINT I/O communication adapter used to enable communication of a POINT I/O rack to the master controller. It has dual Ethernet interface, supporting 10/100 Mbits/s, half or full-duplex. It supports Star and Tree, Daisy Chain or Linear and Ring topologies. This module is powered by a 24 Volt DC Input Voltage and support DIN rail mounting.

F.A.Q for 1734-AENTR

Q: 1. What is the main difference between the 1734-AENT and 1734-AENTR?A: The 1734-AENTR is ideally used for redundant Ethernet communication as it has a dual Ethernet communication interface.
Q: 2. Can I use this communication adapter to communicate with multiple controllers simultaneously?A: Yes, that is one capability supported by Ethernet I/P protocol.
Q: 3. What are the physical topologies supported by this communication adapter?A: This communication adapter supports Star, Tree, Daisy Chain and Ring Topologies.

PDFsupply Tech

The 1734-AENTR has a dual Ethernet interface port which acts as an embedded ethernet switch. With the inclusion of this second port, it is capable of being installed in applications that require high-availability of communication network unlike the 1734-AENT which only has a single Ethernet port.
