About 1734-AENT

The Allen-Bradley 1734-AENT is an Ethernet communication adapter. It belongs to the 1734 POINT I/O Product family. It interfaces POINT I/O modules and enables I/O data transfer from the POINTBus to the scanner or controllers within the Ethernet network. The 1734-AENT feature a single Ethernet communication port, supporting transmission speed of 10/100 Mbits/s, half or full-duplex with auto-negotiation capability. This communication adapter supports connection with Start and Tree Ethernet topologies via Category 5 Shielded or unshielded communication cable with RJ45 connector on both ends. This module has a variety of status indicators such as 3 red/green status indicators (on CPU) to indicate Module status, Network status and POINTBus status. It also has One (1) green status indicator on CPU for Network activity and Two (2) green power supply status indicators on DC-DC Converter which indicates the status of the System power (5V DC to POINTBus Out) and Field power (24V DC from Field In). This module has an input voltage rating of 24V DC @ 10 A with a acceptable supply range of 10-28.8V DC while the field side power requirements are 24V DC @ 400 mA. The module can withstand an inrush Current of 6.0A for 10ms. It has an internal Reverse Polarity Protection. The POINTBus output current is 5V DC @ 1.0A. During power interruption, the output voltage remains within the operating range when input power drops out 10ms at 10V with maximum load. Other Electrical characteristics of the module include maximum Power Consumption of 10.4 W @ 28.8V DC and maximum Power Dissipation of 5.2 W @ 28.8V DC with Thermal Dissipation of 17.75 BTU/hr @ 28.8V DC. The module has a rated isolated voltage of 50V (continuous), Reinforced Insulation Type, between all circuits. Type tested at 500V AC for 60s and Field Power supply of 10-28.8V DC @ 10A. Ethernet protocol is an open protocol which supports up to 100 m cable distance. For longer distances, an Ethernet switch may be used to act as a repeater. For distances that may reach up to 500 meters, conversion to Fiber Optic may be done to increase distance coverage with minimum signal loss. Additionally, it may also be converted to wireless media however, wireless may only be implemented in applications with direct line of sight and minimum obstruction. Ethernet protocol is a highly scalable protocol as it does not require OEM products to expand the network. Ethernet switches, Category 5 and Category 6 cables and RJ45 connectors are commercially available and suitable for most implementation of Ethernet network. For a more secure installation, industrial grade components may be purchased to increase network uptime and availability. Similar with other POINT I/O communication adapter, the 1734-AENT supports up to 63 POINT I/O modules or 504 I/O points. This may be achieved by installing system power module which extends the output current to the POINTBus backplane. At least Two (2) Power Modules may be needed to maximize I/O points.
The Allen-Bradley 1734-AENT is a POINT I/O communication adapter used to enable communication of a POINT I/O rack to the master controller. It has One (1) Ethernet interface, supporting 10/100 Mbits/s, half or full-duplex. It supports Star and Tree topology. This module is powered by a 24 Volt DC Input Voltage and support DIN rail mounting.

F.A.Q for 1734-AENT

Q: 1. Can I use commercially available cables for connection to Ethernet Network?A: Yes, commercially available Cat5 and Cat6 cables may be used however, it is recommended to use industrial grade materials and components. Selections of components depend on the availability, environment and criticality of the system.
Q: 3. Can I use this for Redundant Ethernet network?A: No, this communication adapter only supports Star and Tree Topologies.

PDFsupply Tech

The 1734-AENT is a POINT I/O communication adapter that supports Ethernet protocol. This module is ideal for use in Star and Tree topologies. For high availability network such as redundant network, this module is not compatible due to the moduleÕs single Ethernet port. Fro redundant ethernet applications, use 1734-AENTR.
