About 1734-485ASC

The Allen-Bradley 1734-485ASC is a specialty communications module used for interfacing American Standard Code for Information Exchange (ASCII) capable devices directly to a master Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) that belongs to the 1734 POINT I/O product family. This module enables device level communication with ASCII capable devices such as barcode readers. It supports RS422 / RS485 communication standard, allowing connection of up to 32 31 devices at a time. RS485 is an updated version of the RS422 standard. Equipment or devices that comply with RS485 are typically capable of implementing RS422 via simple wiring modifications. An ASCII module is commonly utilized in manufacturing industry. Practical applications include monitoring and sorting of products according to its relevant production information such as Lot. No., Batch, No, Product Code, Serial No. and other information. ASCII devices are installed directly to the conveyor or the material handling equipment. These devices send ASCII detected characters to the ASCII module for processing and implementation to logic. The 1734-485ASC supports communication speeds of 9600 bps, 1200 bps, 2400 bps, 4800 bps, 19.2 kbps, and 38.4 kbps through the moduleÕs single RS232 communication port. As an RS485 compliant device, this module can communicate up to 31 devices, with a distance of up to 4000 ft. This module requires a terminal base particularly 1734-TB or 1734-TBS. It has 1 green/red module status indicator, 1 green/red network status indicator, and 2 green TXD, RXD status indicators. Serial Character Framing supported by this module are 7N2, 7E1, 7O1, 8N1, 8N2, 8E1, 8O1, 7E2, 7O2. It can receive up 128 ASCII characters as well as transmit the same amount. It has the same amount of transmit and receive data when partnered to a DeviceNet master. Data Type for both transactions can be Array, short_string, string wit hswap mode of Disabled, 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit swap. The 1734-485ASC requires a shielded cable for reducing effect of electrical noise. It has Four (4) active termination points such as Transmit wire (S+), Receive wire (S-), Chassis Ground (CG) and Signal Ground (SG). Other termination points require no connection. This ASCII module is not compatible for use with a ProfiBus adapter with part number 1734-APB. Communication with the Master device can be configured in polled, cyclic or change-of-state configuration with 4-132 produce Bytes and 4-132 consume bytes. It is powered by a backplane current of 75mA @ 5VDC with Power Dissipation of 0.75W maximum @ 28.8VDC and Thermal Dissipation of 2.5 BTU/hr maximum @ 28.8VDC. This module is configured using RSNetworx for DeviceNet. It supports online and offline configuration. The 1734-485ASC is a single slot device which conforms to the DIN Rail mounting compatibility of the POINT I/O family. When mounting to the compatible terminal assembly, Keyswitch position must be set to position 2 in order to install the module.
The Allen-Bradley 1734-485ASC is a POINT I/O ASCII Module. This module belongs to the POINT I/O family of distributed I/O modules which has an embedded One (1) serial channel supporting RS422/485 communication standard. It enables communication with peripheral products such as barcode reader and allows exchange of data up to 128 Bytes using through ASCII protocol.

F.A.Q for 1734-485ASC

Q: 1. What is the difference between 1734-485ASC with 1734-232ASC? A: The main difference is the topology and number of devices each module supports. 1734-232ASC is a point-to-point ASCII device while the 1734-485ASC supports daisy chain topology and capable of communicating with multiple devices.
Q: 2. What is the supported cable distance of this module?A: With the RS485 standard, up to 4000 ft length of cable can be achieved.
Q: 3. What are the compatible terminal assembly used with this module?A: Compatible terminal base are 1734-TB or -TBS wiring base assembly.

PDFsupply Tech

The 1734-485ASC is an ASCII module used for direct interfacing with ASCII devices. This module has single RS485 channel supporting transmission speeds of 9600 bps, 1200 bps, 2400 bps, 4800 bps, 19.2 kbps, and 38.4 kbps. The main difference of this module with the 1734-232ASC is that this module is capable of communicating with multiple devices in daisy chain topology while the 1734-232ASC only supports one device at a time.
