The Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1500 are family of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). This controller family are more powerful set of controllers, capable of being expanded using 1769 Compact I/O modules for expansion.
The MicroLogix 1500 controllers are available in Three (3) base units, 1764-24AWA with line power requirement of 120/240V ac, Twelve (12) embedded AC inputs, Twelve (12) Relay, 2 isolated relays per unit; 1764-24BWA with line power requirement of 120/240V ac, Eight (8) Standard 24V dc and Four (4) Fast 24V dc, Twelve (12) Relay, 2 isolated relays per unit and (4) 20 kHz input; 1764-28BXB with line power requirement of 24V dc with Eight (8) Standard 24V dc and Eight (8) Fast 24V dc, Six (6) Relay with isolated relays per unit, Four (4) Standard 24V dc FET and Two (2) Fast 24V dc FET outputs.
This controller may be expanded up to 512 discrete I/O points, supports expansion of up to One (1) I/O banks where up to Sixteen (16) Compact I/O modules may be installed in the expansion bank. The I/O bank support vertical and Horizontal orientation.
MicroLogix 1500 controllers are provided with RS232 Serial communication interface that supports the AB proprietary DF1 protocol in Full and Half Duplex mode. This communication channel is generally used to communicate Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), gateways, controllers, databases and programming workstations. The same communication port may also be used to establish connection with industrial communication networks with the use Advance Interface Converter (AIC) such as 1761-NET-AIC for connection to DH485 communication network, 1761-NET-DNI for DeviceNet network and 1761-NET-ENI or 1761-NET-ENIW for Ethernet communication.
MicroLogix 1500 product family has Two (2) Processors that are installed to the base hardware. These processors include 1764-LSP with 3.6 KB User Program and 4 KB User data; 1764-LRP with 10 KB User Program and 4 KB User Data. MicroLogix 1500 uses Lithium battery to retain the contents of the internal memory. It supports addition of several memory and clock modules such as 1764-MM1, 1764-MM1RTC, 1764-MM2, 1764-MM2RTC, 1764-MM3, 1764-MM3RTC.
MicroLogix 1500 controllers supports up to installation of up to 16 Compact I/O modules as well as installation of I/O banks for rack expansion. It is programmed RSLogix 500 programming software, an IEC-61131-3 compliant software that is capable of ladder programming language.
MicroLogix 1500 firmware are upgradable using Allen-Bradley’s ControlFlash utility. Firmware may be upgraded anytime however, caution must be applied when upgrading the firmware of these product as well as other products as firmware flashing may render any device unresponsive if disrupted while in the middle of the process. When performing upgrades, ensure stable power supply, preferably connect the unit to a functioning Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and a firm communication between workstation sending the firmware and the controller receiving the firmware.
MicroLogix 1500 controllers are discontinued product line. Existing installations may be migrated to MicroLogix 1400 or Micro800 automation controllers. MicroLogix 1400 are also mature products while Micro800 are the most recent compact controller products of Allen-Bradley.
