About 1764-MM2

The Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1500 memory module with part number 1764-MM2 has an internal memory amounting to 16KB. This memory module is compatible with the MicroLogix 1500 controller family. Memory modules like the 1764-MM2 are important accessories as it may contribute to increasing machine or process availability. One of the primary reasons of machine or process shutdown is due to corrupted memory of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). This may be caused by power spikes, repeated interruption as well as electrical noise. With a 1764-MM2 memory module, the user program and data may be easily loaded to the controller to continue the process and prevent long delays. It also serves as a removable storage where up to One (1) program may be loaded to the memory module. Memory moduleÕs allowable functions are User Program and Data Back-Up, Program Compare, Data File Download Protection, Memory Module Write Protection, and Removal/Insertion Under Power. It is an Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) where contents are erased by applying a certain level of voltage to a specific pin of the memory module. This non-volatile memory does not depend to external battery to retain its user program. Additionally, the user program and data may be burned to the memory module by initiating command COMMS > EEPROM > Load to EEPROM. Once the necessary data are burned to the module, automatic loading of user programs may be configured. Memory module information is stored in the Memory Module Information File (MMI). It saves memory module information that is collected during start-up or when the module is detected by the processor. Information collected includes catalog number, series, revision, and type of the module inserted. The MMI file contains Zero (0) if no module is detected. detailed contents of the Memory Module Function File are FT - Functionality Type, MP - Module Present, WP - Write Protect, FO - Fault Override, LPC - Program Compare, LE - Load On Error, LA - Load Always, and MB - Mode Behavior. The 1764-MM2 are compatible with MicroLogix 1500 base units such as 1764-L24AWA; 1764-L24BWA; 1764-L28BXB and processor with catalog number 1764-LRP and 1764-LSP. This memory module is installed inside the base unit. To install this module, the processor cover or the Data Access Tool must be removed first. Before installing the memory module to the module slot, touch a grounded object and avoid holding any of the exposed pins of the module. This module supports insertion or removal under power, however, minimize and avoid shaking the controller assembly when dismounting the memory module and other components. The vibration and shock may cause module errors especially to older installations. If the memory module is installed while the MicroLogix 1500 is in RUN mode, the system will have to be power cycled before the memory module is recognized. Practice precaution when executing this as this method may require process stoppage.
The Allen-Bradley 1764-MM2 is an Allen-Bradley Memory Module compatible for use with MicroLogix 1500 Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). The memory of this module amounts to 16KB. This memory module may be used and with MicroLogix 1500 controller allowing a convenient means of transporting user program, program compare, data file download protection among other functions.

F.A.Q for 1764-MM2

Q: 1. What is the difference of 1764-MM1 and 1764-MM2? A: They technically function the same. The main difference is the memory size. The 1761-MM1 had 8KB memory while the 1764-MM2 has 16KB.
