About 1766-MM1

The 1766-MM1 is a memory module compatible with MicroLogix 1400 controllers. The memory is an Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM), a non-volatile memory type where contents may only be deleted when a sufficient voltage signal is applied to the specific pin of the module. The memory amounts to 384KB, which is a non-volatile type. As a non-volatile memory, this memory module does not depend on the controllerÕs battery charge to retain user program and program data. This memory module does not increase the internal memory of the controller instead, it provides a secure way of storing controller data as the non-volatile memory type are seldom erased unless manually initiated or due to exposure to external factors. The use of this memory module increases machine uptime as it prevents program corruption which is one of the common reasons of downtime in the industry. This contributes to more production which translates to higher productivity. The 1766-MM1 allowable functions include user programs and data to be stored as backup, transport programs for use with other controllers, special safety/security features for press control and other critical applications auto-recovery, through a power cycle, after a controller fault, comparison of programs, data file and memory module write protection and removal/insertion under power. Transport of program refers to the loading of program to any MicroLogix 1400 controller by simply inserting the memory module. Auto-recovery refers to the automatic loading of program when the controller is power cycled. This is the typical solution when the contents of the internal controller memory is deleted due to low battery charge or corruption. With auto-recovery, the memory module is simply inserted to the controller. The controller is started. During the start-up of the controller, the contents of the memory module is transferred to the controllerÕs Random-Access Memory (RAM). If the controller is not supplied with a new battery, the program in the RAM will be deleted again which means the same procedure must be repeated. The memory module also supports removal or insertion under power however, when the memory module is inserted to an energized controller, the 1766-MM1 will not be recognized unless the controller is power cycled. The 1766-MM1 supports MicroLogix 1400 controllers specifically 1766-L32BWA, 1766-L32AWA, 1766-L32BXB, 1766-L32BWAA, 1766-L32AWAA, and 1766-L32BXBA. When handling or transporting the memory module, prevent electrostatic discharge form affecting the module. It is prohibited to touch the pins except the insulated edges of the module. Avoid placing the memory module to an improperly grounded surface or near power supplies and magnets. Electrostatic discharge improperly deletes or corrupts the contents of the module. To load the contents of the memory module to the internal Random Access Memory (RAM) of the MicroLogix 1200 controller, an active connection must be established with the controller. Choose EEPROM parameter and initiate Load from EEPROM command.
The Allen-Bradley 1766-MM1 is an Allen-Bradley Memory Module compatible for use with MicroLogix 1400 Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). This integrated memory of this module amounts to 384KB. This memory module may be used and with other MicroLogix 1400 controller allowing a convenient means of transporting user program, program compare, data file download protection among other functions.
