The 1762-L40BXBR is a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) that belongs to the MicroLogix 1200 product family. This controller features an embedded power supply, memory, processor, I/O channels and communication port. This controller may be used to implement manual and automatic discrete control of machines or processes and may be expanded to enable automatic control of analog control loops. The 1762-L40BXBR is classified as a compact controller. Compact controllers are PLC assembly where a single unit is equipped with the necessary components to function as PLC. Other PLC classification are modular PLC where each component is separately purchased. the 1762-L40BXBRÕs integrated I/O amounts to 40 points where Twenty -Four (24) are input channels which consists of Twenty (20) 24VDC standard inputs and Four (4) Fast 24VDC inputs. The Standard inputs are typical channels used for most input devices such as switches, sensors, auxiliary contacts while the Fast inputs are especially designed for counting applications, metering and low-resolution position detection. The output channels amount to Sixteen (16) outputs which further consist of Eight (8) Relay outputs, Seven (7) 24VDC FET and One (1) High-speed output channels. The relay outputs are Form A or Normally open contact outputs which may be operated at voltage ranges of 5-125VDC and 5-265VAC. The FET outputs provide 24VDC signals, while the High-speed output channel provide fast 24VDC switching channels that may be used to perform metering device like function and other applications. This controller has dual communication ports, assigned as Channel 0 and Channel 1. Channel 0 supports multiple communication protocols such as DH485, DF1 Full-Duplex, DF1 Half Duplex, DF1 Radio Modem, MODBUS Master / Slave and ASCII protocols. DH485 and ASCII are device level communication protocol, DF1 are designed for peer-to-peer communication and while MODBUS supports peer-to-peer and Master/Slave communication. The secondary communication port is dedicated for DF1 Full Duplex mode. This port is not designed to initiate messages therefore, not ideal for data exchange. It is most compatible for performing programming functions such as upload, download, test and commissioning of program. Use the primary communication port to send and receive data, initiate control from computer-Based control systems such as Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS). It may also be used as a messaging port, allowing data transfer from one controller to another. The 1762-L40BXBR is also provide with dual, quarter-turn trim potentiometers. These potentiometers have an value of 0-250 units which may be used for compare instructions, time settings and serve as local control interface or simulation of data. Logic execution is performed in Four (4) phases, such as Input status scan, Logic execution, Output status update and internal housekeeping. Once the phases are completed, one scan is complete.
