The Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1100 family of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) are also called small logic controllers, specifically catering micro and small-scale automation applications. Some specific application areas of this controller family are SCADA RTU, packaging, and material handling, machine control and many other applications. With the relatively larger allocated memory for data logging and recipe storage than the MicroLogix 1500, the MicroLogix 1100 product line is great for remote monitoring and used for applications that require larger and intensive memory access, but with low I/O density. This controller is a compact controller with each model embedded with Ten (10) digital inputs, Two (2) analog inputs, Six (6) digital outputs while controllers with DC inputs have additional feature of One (1) embedded 40kHz high-speed counter and DC output controllers provided with Two (2) 40kHz high-speed Pulse Train Output /Pulse Width Modulation outputs.

All controllers in this product family has front-panel LCD display that allows monitoring of the controller’s status, setting of IP address, setting of RS232 communication settings, Input and Output monitoring and forcing, monitoring of the controller’s operating mode and may other viewable parameters. It is also provided with a keypad to allow user interaction. MicroLogix 1100 controllers are provided with Two (2) communication ports. It has One (1) Isolated RS-232/RS-485 combo communication port while the other supports Ethernet communication. Specific for Ethernet communication settings, this controller supports setting of IP address using BOOTP-DHCP tool, an Allen-Bradley tool used for setting the IP address of an ethernet capable device by referencing any device’ unique MAC address. The integrated RS232 communication port supports DF1 protocol, Half and full Duplex, MODBUS RTU and DH485 while the embedded Ethernet supports Ethernet I/P protocol which may be configured for Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) generic messaging. These ports are individually operated and may be used for simultaneous communication with any compatible device such as programming workstation, Human Machine Interface (HMI), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and other devices. his product family has integrated 4K words user program memory and 4K words user data memory where pp to 128K bytes for data logging and 64K bytes for recipe may be configured and stored. It has an embedded web-server and email support.

Unlike the MicroLogix 1000 controllers, the MicroLogix 1100 controllers are capable of expanding its compact base. It supports addition of up to Four (4) 1762 I/O modules, to increase I/O density and cater a wider variety of application. Compatible expansion modules include discrete input modules operating at 120 VAC and 24VDC in sinking and sourcing configuration, Analog input modules specifically standard, RTD and Thermocouple modules, discrete outputs such as 120-240VAC and 24VDC sinking and sourcing modules as well as analog output modules.

All MicroLogix 1100 are configured using RSLogix 500 programming software, a ladder language capable software that is a Microsoft Windows based application. This controller may also be added with a memory module for use as a non-volatile backup and provide a convenient way to transfer one MicroLogix 1100 program to another controller.
