About 1761-NET-DNI

The 1761-NET-DNI is an interface converter by Allen-Bradley. This electronic component specifically converts DF1 protocol interface to DeviceNet communication. It allows a peer-to-peer enabled device to communicate with devices in multi-drop or multi-node setup. The 1761-NET-DNI works by gathering data from a DF1 compatible device such as MicroLogix controllers, SLC 500 and PLC5 controllers over RS232 connection and transfer forward the data to the defined master device within the DeviceNet communication highway. The converter supervises the output data of the specified DeviceNet master for writing to the corresponding DF1 device. This Two (2) way transaction allows complete send and receive for data for use by the devices in the network. The 1761-NET-DNI primary features include implementing of DeviceNet I/O, controller to controller data exchange via explicit messaging and programming capability over DeviceNet network. It can interconnect devices such as MicroLogix controllers, DF1 Full Duplex compliant products such as PLC5, SLC or 3rd party devices. The 1761-NET-DNI are provided with a single RS232 communication port and DeviceNet interface. The RS232 port is an 8-Pin mini DIN port while connection to DeviceNet network is made via the provided phoenix connector that can be easily attached to the product. It has a node marking area where the DeviceNet address may be written. This interface converter is designed to be owned by one master device in the network. This principle is similar to a PLCÕs remote I/O technology where a controller owns one or more remote I/O racks. Required power supply of the interface converter is 24VDC with rated supply range of 11 to 25VDC. Supported transmission speed are 125K, 250K and 500K. Environmental considerations include operating temperature of 0¡ CÉ+60¡ C (+32¡ FÉ+140¡ F) and storage temperature of 40¡ CÉ+85¡ C (-40¡ FÉ+175¡ F). This interface converter supports Peer to Peer Messaging, I/O Assembly Explicit Messaging, UCMM, Configuration Consistency Value, Deferred Delete, Faulted Node Recovery, DeviceNet Auto-Baud, among others. To configure 1761-NET-DNI, the converterÕs series must be taken into account. DNI configuration files are required according to the series. For Series A interface converter, it requires RSNetWorx and DeviceNet Manager (version 3.0 and higher). Communication cables compatible with this interface converter are 1761-CBL-AM00 and 1761-CBL-HM02 for all series of MicroLogix, 1761-CBL-AP00 and 1761-CBL-PM02 for SLC 5/03, SLC 5/04, or SLC 5/05 Channel 0 and 1761-CBL-AP00 1761-CBL-PM02 for PLC 5. The 1761-NET-DNI can be installed on a DIN rail or directly to a mounting plate. To install this device to a DIN rail, The DIN rail must be mounted first to the mounting plate. Snap the converterÕs DIN rail latch into the closed configuration, hook the top slot onto the DIN rail and press against the rail until the converter snaps into place. For Direct panel mounting, drill holes that align with the converterÕs template. Once holes are created, the converterÕs mounting screws may now be screwed against the panel. Whichever installation, connect the converterÕs ground terminal to the corresponding grounding strip within the panel.
The Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-DNI is an Advanced Interface Converter. This electronic converter is compatible for use with SLC, MicroLogix, PLC5 and Operator interfaces which enables connection of any DF1 enabled device to DeviceNet network. This converter is DIN rail or Panel mounted.

Q: 3. What are the cables required for use with this converter?A: Compatible cables are 1761-CBL-PM02, 1761-CBL-HM02, 1761-CBL-AM00, 1761- CBL-AP00

PDFsupply Tech

The 1761-NET-DNI allows MicroLogix, SLC, PLC5 and Operator Terminals exchange data by converting RS232 to DeviceNet protocol. DeviceNet is a field level protocol that allows communication to field devices. This protocol however, is not as user-friendly as Ethernet protocol. With DeviceNet, peer-to-peer messaging is supported, integration of devices to computer-based control systems is enabled.
