About 1761-NET-AIC

The Allen-Bradley Advanced Interface Converter with part number 1761-NET-AIC is used for interfacing MicroLogix, SLC controllers, PanelView Operator terminals and modems with RS232 DF1 communication ports to connect to DH485 network. This interface converter is a DIN rail or panel mounted device that is has user selectable power supply options. It may be energized using an external 24VDC source or through the communication cable connected to the device. This Interface converter is provided with Two (2) RS232 communication port, One (1) with 9-pin SUB-D connector type while the other one with 8-pin mini DIN circular connector type. For connection to DH485 network, a Phoenix plug is provided used for RS485 communication port. The converterÕs baud rate setting is configured using the selector switch installed at the deviceÕ front panel. There are 2 ways to power ON this interface converter. If used with a MicroLogix or SLC Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and connection is established using the 8-Pin mini Din terminal, an external supply is not necessary as the connection already carries 24VDC power supply. In this situation, the power supply selector switch must be switched to the to use the ÒCableÓ position. In any other case, set the switch to ÒExternalÓ which means an external 24VDC power supply is used to energize the Advance Interface Converter. Compatible cables used with this converter are 1761-CBL-PM02, 1761-CBL-HM02, 1761-CBL-AM00, 1761-CBL-AP00, 2707-NC8, 2707-NC9, 2707-NC10,2707-NC11. Fabricated cables or user supplied cables may also be used provided that the pinout of the specific cable being replicated is strictly followed. The AIC converter functions as a point-to point isolator, RS232 to RS485 isolator and RS232 to half-duplex user mode ASCII isolator. It is specifically designed in compatibility with Allen-Bradley devices particularly SLC 500, 5/01, 5/02, and 5/03 processors, interface to the converterÕs channel 1, SLC 5/03, 5/04, and 5/05 processors, interface to channel 0, MicroLogix controllers, Logix controllers, 1756-DH485 ControlLogix module, Operator interface devices, Personal computer serial ports or any 9-pin DTE serial port and Modems. The 1761-HHP-B30 MicroLogix 1000 Hand-held Programmer cannot be used to connect to the AIC+ advanced interface converter. Aside from providing direct interface or connection to devices, this interface converter may also be used to implement Three (3) node network such as Networked Operator-interface Device and MicroLogix Controller, and Networks Using Ganged Converters. It may also be used to extend a DH485 communication network from 4000 ft to 8000 ft. This interface converter is provided with LED status indicators to allow visual feedback regarding the device operation and the health of the communication exchange. Available LED indicators are TX RS-232 (8-pin mini-DIN) LED Indicator, TX RS-232 (9-pin) LED Indicator, TX RS-485 LED Indicator and PWR (Power) LED Indicator. The communication channels should display a flashing LED which indicates that the channel is actively transmitting data over the network. An idle LED indicates that the port is idle or not receiving data from the network. The Power indicator should be ON to indicate that power is supplied to the device otherwise, an OFF LED may mean power supply is not present or the switch is improperly set.
The Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-AIC is an Advanced Interface Converter. This electronic converter is compatible for use with SLC and MicroLogix product family. It allows connection of any DF1 enabled device to DH485 network. This controller may be powered by an external 24VDC signal or powered over the communication cable.
