The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 3170-PDP adapter is a Profibus adapter and a Profibus network interface. It is part of the Allen-Bradley Flex I/O product line. The Flex I/O system that the 3170-PDP Profibus adapter is compatible with can perform all the functions of a rack-based I/O system but it is much more compact and modular than a traditional rack-based setup. This adapter is an interface between a Profibus scanner or controller and the Flex I/O system’s backplane. When functioning as an interface, the 3170-PDP Profibus adapter receives data from the Profibus scanners and controllers that it is connected to and it distributes this data to the system’s output modules. It can interface with 8 modules at a time.
The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 3170-PDP Profibus adapter from the Flex I/O series comes with a terminal base and an I/O module that form the complete device along with the adapter itself. This adapter is rated for a nominal input voltage of 24 Volts DC and it operates with a DC voltage range of 12 to 24 Volts DC. It is easy to install this adapter in a Flex I/O backplane because it only needs 1 slot in the backplane. Its backplane current load rating is 20 milliamps at 5 Volts DC, and its maximum backplane output current rating is 640 milliamps at 5 Volts DC. The 3170-PDP Profibus adapter is compatible with several accessories like mounting kits and extension cables.
