The 1797-IRT8 input module is a thermocouple/RTD input module that has been manufactured by Allen-Bradley in the Flex Ex I/O series of industrial I/O modules. The components of the 1797-IRT8 thermocouple/RTD input module and its compatible terminal base unit include the keyswitch and flexbus connector on the terminal base unit and the alignment bar on the module. The 1797-IRT8 thermocouple/RTD input module is designed to be easy to install securely on the compatible terminal base units which include the 1797-TB3 and 1797-TB3S terminal base units which are intrinsically safe terminal base units. This thermocouple/RTD input module is designed to handle intrinsically safe applications as long as it has not been exposed to any electrical signals that are not intrinsically safe. If the 1797-IRT8 module has been exposed to non-intrinsically safe signals, it cannot be used in intrinsically safe environments or applications.
The Allen-Bradley Flex Ex I/O 1797-IRT8 thermocouple/RTD input module has a built-in environmental protection rating of IP 20, which is not enough protection for many industrial environments, so it is recommended to install the module in a metal enclosure that will give it a higher degree of protection and extend its operating life. This input module should also be protected against ESD or electrostatic discharge. The 1797-IRT8 thermocouple/RTD input module can support RIUP or Removal and Insertion Under Power, but it should only be removed or inserted under power in non-hazardous environments because electrical arcs or even explosions can occur in hazardous environments. This input module can tolerate 5 to 95% relative humidity in operation and storage as long as the humidity does not condense.
