About 1797-BCNR
The Allen-Bradey/Rockwell Automation 1797-BCNR device is a redundant ControlNet Ex barrier for the Allen-Bradley Flex Ex I/O series devices. The 1797-BCNR barrier makes it possible to connect the ControlNet and the ControlNet Ex networks to each other. This device is a galvanic isolation barrier for the signals that flow between an intrinsically safe ControlNet Ex system and a ControlNet system that is not intrinsically safe. To function properly, the 1797-BCNR ControNet Ex barrier needs to be installed in the safe area in the system with the ControlNet Ex devices. The BNC connectors on this barrier come with cover plugs that keep the connectors safe and clean and these plugs should only be removed when cables are connected to them.
The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1797-BCNR redundant ControlNet Ex barrier has an operating temperature range from -4 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit or -20 to 70 degrees Celsius. It is CE certified but it is not field repairable. If the 1797-BCNR redundant ControlNet Ex barrier is damaged, it either must be sent back to the factory for repairs or replaced with a new barrier device. In a ControlNet Ex system, the 1797-BCNR redundant ControlNet Ex barrier must be mounted on a DIN rail before any of the modules in the system are mounted or installed. It should be protected by an IP 54 rated enclosure because it only has an IP 20 protection rating by itself. If 2 nodes are connected on the 1797-BCNR redundant ControlNet Ex barrier, the maximum cable length that it can support is 1640 feet or 500 meters.
