The purpose of the 1788-MCHKR MediaChecker module is to inspect a controller system for errors in the cables and wiring to prevent user injury, component damage, data errors, and data loss. The cable and wiring issues that the 1788-MCHKR MediaChecker module looks out for include split pairs or incorrect pairings, miswired connections, shorts and open wires on twisted-pair cables, and shorts on coaxial cables. This module has a library of stored cables that provides quick and easy access to information about common cable types, and this module is equipped to verify the proper types of cable terminations for most Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation cables.
The Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation 1788-MCHKR MediaChecker module ships with a carrying case, an RA or resistive adapter cable identifier device that has a female DB9 connector, a user manual, a quick reference card, and 2 AA alkaline batteries that are each rated at 1.5 Volts. The 1788-MCHKR MediaChecker module features an LCD screen that can show 2 lines of text at a time with up to 8 characters of text per line. There are up and down arrow keys on the module that can be used to scroll up and down on the screen when there is more text on the screen than can be shown in just 2 lines and 16 characters. The “Enter” key is used to enter menu selections into the module and to bring up a display of the current cable selection, and the “Setup” key provides access to the module’s cable selection and calibration settings.
