The Allen-Bradley 1788-EN2FFR module is a linking device that connects 2 different networks together in an industrial system. The 1788-EN2FFR linking device is the gateway for the Ethernet/IP network and a Foundation Fieldbus H1 layer that contains only 1 segment. With a dedicated AOP or add-on profile, the 1788-EN2FFR linking device can be configured by the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application. This linking device is ideal for media redundancy setups and it can support different kinds of media redundancy systems for different applications. The supported media redundancy options include the ring setup, the split setup, and the redundant trunk setup as the standard options while the more specialized options include the H1 media setup, the redundant linking devices setup, the redundant controllers setup, and the redundant ControlNet media setup.
The Allen-Bradley 1788-EN2FFR linking device is able to support up to 16 field devices at 1 time. In an Ethernet network, the 1788-EN2FFR linking device connects a ControlLogix controller and a power supply to intelligent junction boxes which in turn connect to several field devices. In a ControlNet network, more than 1 1788-EN2FFR linking device can be used to connect computers and a ControlLogix controller to intelligent junction boxes which are in turn connected to field devices just like the junction boxes in the Ethernet network. The 1788-EN2FFR linking device does not need additional power supplies or power conditioners to operate and it should not be connected to any. This linking device connects to single and dual ControlNet media with its BNC connectors and it connects to the Ethernet/IP network with its RJ45 connector.
The 1788-EN2FFR linking device from Allen-Bradley is compatible with the ControlNet network and the Ethernet/IP network. The operators can configure it with the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application.
