About 1788-CN2PAR
The Allen-Bradley 1788-CN2PAR linking device is manufactured to link the Profibus PA network to the ControlNet network and the Ethernet/IP network. It is easy to integrate into any Allen-Bradley Logix platform and it is capable of high-speed communication. No intermediate Profibus DP communication layer is required when the 1788-CN2PAR linking device is used because it can provide a direct link from the Profibus PA network to the ControlNet network. A complete ControlNet network setup in an industrial system includes a computer, a ControlLogix controller, 1 or more 1788-CN2PAR linking devices, junction boxes, and a variety of peripheral devices that can handle different applications. However, this system should not include extra power supplies or power conditioners with the 1788-CN2PAR linking device.
The Allen-Bradley 1788-CN2PAR linking device can connect to both single and dual ControlNet media because it has 2 BNC connectors on its base. This linking device also has a dual-port Ethernet/IP switch that allows it to support several Ethernet topologies which include the DLR or the device level ring topology. Additionally, the Ethernet port can provide the 1788-CN2PAR linking device with access to a web server or to tools for asset management. The hardware switches that are located behind the linking device’s front cover can be used to configure its node address for ControlNet operation. In a Logix controller, the 1788-CN2PAR linking device is meant to be used as part of the system’s I/O tree and it must be configured as part of this I/O tree. It also needs to be connected to a ControlNet bridge module.
The 1788-CN2PAR linking device is made by Allen-Bradley to connect Logix and Profibus devices to the Ethernet/IP and ControlNet networks. Multiple 1788-CN2PAR linking devices can be used in a ControlNet network.
