The 1606-XLDC92D DC/DC converter is manufactured by Allen-Bradley as part of the Bulletin 1606 and the Switched Mode Power Supplies series. This module supports easy installation on a DIN rail and it comes with an output power rating of 92 Watts. This Allen-Bradley converter operates by using a battery or a conforming source of power which usually connects to an input voltage of 24 Volts DC, and which can also accept a voltage of 14.4 to 32.4 Volts DC. The 1606-XLDC92D converter offers an output voltage of 24 volts DC, which is stable with a ripple of less than 50 mVpp. For this reason, the 1606-XLDC92D DC/DC converter can be used for stabilization and for refreshing the DC voltage at times at the end of the long cables.
The Allen-Bradley 1606-XLDC92D converter module comes with features such as the soft start which helps to drive the output current to enable it to rise slowly until it gets to a nominal value of 3.8 Amps. Additionally, the soft start feature also offers a longer life for the device by charging the internal and external capacitors slowly while avoiding the high turn-on currents. The feature increases the output voltage rise time, as well as the average operating time to more than 500,000 working hours. The 1606-XLDC92D converter comes with a bulk capacitor that acts like a small battery. Note that when the input voltage is removed, a voltage glitch occurs and the capacitor can prevent the converter from being damaged. Additionally, this capacitor helps to keep the output voltage up for a maximum of 14 milliseconds while there is no input power. The 1606-XLDC92D converter also comes with a “DC OK” LED indicator that shows the users when DC voltage at the output is at a nominal level of not less than 90 percent.
