The Allen-Bradley 140G series is a series of molded case circuit breakers and molded case switches. These circuit breakers and switches are used as electrical safety devices in industrial systems. The 140G circuit breakers can protect conductors and other equipment from overcurrent. They open automatically before the current in the system reaches a value or duration that would create dangerously high temperatures in the conductors or their insulation. The 140G circuit breakers can also be installed in control panels and used to disconnect them to protect them from overcurrent. They can be used as branch protection devices and as feeder breakers. The 140G circuit breakers provide low-level short-circuit and overcurrent protection in most applications. Most 140G breakers are thermal-magnetic breakers, but some are electronic. The electronic 140G breakers are more adjustable than the thermal-magnetic breakers, and they provide more protection functions. The 140G series also includes circuit breakers that are current limiting breakers. Current limiting breakers have an additional function that limits the amount of energy that can come through the breaker when the breaker is tripped. The 140G molded case switches can be used to disconnect the downstream circuit that it is installed in. The molded case switches have many of the same functions and features as the circuit breakers, but the switches do not break circuits automatically when overloads and short circuits occur. A variety of accessories are available for 140G circuit breakers. These accessories busbar adapters, cable lugs, end caps, rotary operating mechanisms, and contacts. The 140G circuit breakers can be used in a variety of low-voltage, 3-phase power systems.
