The 1336-MOD-KB050 from Allen-Bradley is a Dynamic Braking Unit designed for use with adjustable Frequency AC Drives, particularly the 1336/1336VT FORCE, PLUS, PLUS II, and IMPACT models with drive ratings ranging from B040 to B060. Its primary function is to facilitate rapid braking of motors, preventing the build-up of excess voltage on the DC bus, a common cause of adjustable frequency AC drive tripping. The module achieves this by automatically connecting and disconnecting braking resistors, effectively dissipating surplus power as heat. Notably, it continually monitors the DC bus voltage, activating the dynamic brake when detecting a sharp voltage rise and deactivating it when the voltage returns to the configured limit. The 1336-MOD-KB050 is rated for voltages of 380VAC, 415VAC, and 460VAC, housed in a NEMA Type 1 enclosure (IP20), featuring indicator lights for "Brake ON" and "DC Bus." This unit also includes a unique feature for 050-rated drives, a DC Power light that illuminates when the DC Bus voltage exceeds 40 VDC. Importantly, the dynamic brake remains inactive during motor stops, acceleration, and when the motor operates at a constant speed without an overhauling load. Measuring 16 x 24 x 9.75 inches and weighing 33.8 kg (75 lbs.), it's an integral option for the aforementioned drives, boasting a power rating of 37kW (50 Hp) and 3750W. Equipped with a dynamic brake resistor with 10.5 Ω resistance and an average Wattage dissipation of 7000W, the module includes built-in fans with a 600mA input power and a 50mA enable signal. It's worth noting that the dynamic brake module should be kept away from locations with hazardous or corrosive atmospheric elements, but it can operate at altitudes of up to 1000 meters without derating. The module's operational temperature range spans from -10°C to 50°C, with a relative humidity range of 5% to 95%, making it a versatile solution for industrial applications.
