The 6203FP10800 Bus Switching Module or BSM is a 24/48 Volts DC rated BSM manufactured by ABB as a redundancy device. It is used to connect discrete and analog I/O devices with the 2 serial buses in a PLC system. It supports up to 8 I/O devices. The 6203FP10800 Bus Switching Module uses a dual bus configuration for providing a backup path for communication to avoid interruptions in a bus failure. More than one bus switching module can be connected with the dual bus. The specifications of this bus switching module are 18 Volts DC to 56 Volts DC of input voltage, 10 milliamps of current at 24 Volts DC, 30 milliamps of current at 48 Volts DC, and 500,000 operations within its operating lifetime.        

 

The 6203FP10800 Bus Switching Module requires a 15-inch and a 36-inch prefabricated cable for stub wiring. These cables must be ordered separately. I/O blocks that can provide an output circuit for controlling the switching operation are suitable to use as BSM controllers. For the configurations of a BSM controller, it is recommended to use a compatible Phase B hand-held monitor. The hand-held monitor is also suitable for switching the BSM by using force commands. This module can be easily installed on the BSM slot or block on the compatible I/O unit by using pigtail wires. These pigtail wires are not polarized. In addition to the I/O block, a relay block can also be used as a BSM controller. Some of the advanced features of this module include dual communication, simple operation, Genius I/O block compatibility, and an indicator LED. The 6203FP10800 Bus Switching Module supports redundancy when the bus interface module is situated in another CPU.
