Product Description

IC693ALG223 is a PACSystems Series 90-30 RX3i Analog Current Input Module that offers 16 channels. The module’s 16 separate and single ended channels can be configured for any of the following three ranges: 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 20 mA, or 4 to 20 mA Enhanced. Both high and low alarms are obtainable on each range. In the enhanced range, the IC693ALG223 module can be set with a low alarm limit to detect input current with open wire fault detection in the 4 to 20 mA applications; high alarm alerts can also be set by the user. Additionally, this module reports status, including power supply standing to the CPU. IC693ALG223 can be used in any I/O slot that offers a serial connector in the RX3i or Series 90-30 system.

Specific to the IC693ALG223 module, 120 mA from a 5 VCD bus on the controller backplane is consumed. This also needs a 65 mA plus current loop from a +24 VDC supply supplied by the user. An update rate of 6 ms is standard with isolation of 250 VAC continuous or 1500 VAC for one minute. When scanning active channels, the number of channels to be scanned will be completed in serial order. Analog values are scaled over the entire range of the converter with factory calibration adjusting the analog value per bit. RX3i racks support upgrades to the firmware associated with this module, but this does not include 90-30 racks. The IC693ALG223 is also equipped with LED status lights emitting ON, OFF, and FAIL to assist the user in operation and troubleshooting.

The IC693ALG223 Module is a 16-channel analog current input module manufactured by GE Fanuc as part of the Series 90-30 product line. This module comes with 16 single-ended input channels that are designed to convert between different supported current ranges or to convert the analog signals to digital PLC signals. The module has an isolation voltage of 1500 Volts between its field side and logic side, and this helps to eliminate the ground loops within the communication lines. The GE Fanuc IC693ALG223 Analog Current Input Module provides 3 input current ranges which are 4 to 20 milliamps, 0 to 20 milliamps and 4 to 20 milliamps. This unit has been tested and engineered to operate with the GE Series 90-30 PLCs, and it operates on a nominal current of 65 milliamps at 24 Volts DC of voltage from the external power supply that provides the system with loop currents.

The GE Fanuc IC693ALG223 16-Channel Analog Input Module comes with an input filter response frequency of 200 Hertz and an input impedance of 250 Ohms. The total number of analog current inputs that can be installed in the system is 4 along with the 323, 313, and 311 CPUs, and 8 analog current inputs can be installed with the 331 CPU, and 12 inputs can be installed with the 341and 340 CPUs. This unit comes with a high level of resolution and accuracy that helps it to deal with analog signals that are highly sensitive. The module also receives analog inputs from a wide range of sensors like the level sensors, temperature sensors, and flow sensors. For the IC693ALG223 Analog Input Module to achieve the needed accuracy level, the input channels come with resolution of 4 microamps at 4 to 20 milliamps of current, and a resolution of 5 microamps at 0 to 20 milliamps.

User Supply OK Status Bit for IC693ALG223

Description

Advisory Concerning Use Of "User Supply OK" Status Bit For The Series 90™-30 IC693ALG223A Analog Current Input Module

Resolution

The Series 90-30 16 channel Analog Current Input Module (IC693ALG223) provides 1500V isolation between the field wiring and the PLC logic circuitry by means of an optocoupler barrier. This module requires an external DC power supply for the analog and digital circuitry on the field side of that barrier. If the user-provided external power supply (+24VDC nominal) fails, is disconnected, or otherwise falls outside of the allowable range then the initial version (with catalog number suffix 'A') of this module will do the following:

  1. Turn off the "User Supply OK" LED on the module faceplate.
  2. Change the "User Supply OK" status bit in %I memory from a '1' to a '0'.
  3. Report a full scale value (+32,760) to %AI memory in the CPU.

CAUTION
The artificial full scale value (+32760) that is reported to the PLC when the external DC power supply goes out of the allowed range may cause unexpected PLC logic solution if the "User Supply OK" status bit is not monitored by the user's application program to prevent this value from being interpreted as valid.

NOTE
The "User Supply OK" and "Module OK" status bits should always be used to help ensure that the application program handles unexpected events such as the loss of external power supplies in a suitable manner. For additional information on the application or capabilities of this particular Series 90-30 module, refer to datasheet GFK-0831.

Customer Questions and Answers

  • Question:  What is an IC693ALG223?  Answer:  The IC693ALG223 is a 16-Channel Analog Voltage Input module for the GE Fanuc 90-30 Series. This PLC will give you 16 single-ended conversions of analog input signals into digital values for use as required by your application. the module provides for 3 input rages. Typically the unit consumes 120mA from the 5V bus/PLC.
  • Question:  What is the main power supply for the IC693ALG223?  Answer:  The main power source for this Analog Input comes from the isolated +24 VDC power supplied by the PLC power supply. The configuration for this particular voltage is then routed through an inverter/regulator to produce the operating voltages for the module.
  • Question:  How can I minimize capacitive loading and noise?  Answer:  You should make sure all field connections to the module are wired using a good grade of twisted, shielded instrumentation cable.
  • Question:  Where should the shields be connected to?  Answer:  Normal configuration is to either a COM or GND.
  • Question:  In what type of slot should the IC693ALG223 be installed?  Answer:  The IC693ALG223 Analog Input can be installed in any I/O slot of a 5 or 10-slot baseplate in a Series 90-30 PLC system.
  • Question:  What is a good way to test this IC693ALG223?  Answer:  You can easily see if the unit is working by probing the channels of this Analog Input in the 90-30 Series with a voltage meter. You will be looking for a positive reading. You should probe the channels in the same way making sure your leads are correct. Your results should be consistent.
  • Question:  How to tell if your IC693ALG223 is faulty?  Answer:  If the OK light is not on, then your product may be in need of repair.
