The IC660BBD020 is 24/48 VDC Source I/O, 16 Circuit, 3 Wire Sensor Compatible Block of GE Fanuc series 90-30 PLCs. It is a configurable block that interfaces 3-wire solid state and electromechanical sensors. This block works with 24 or 48 VDC and provides current to output devices only.  The IC660BBD020 has 16 discrete circuits. Each of them can be configured as input, tristate input, or output with different parameters and features. It also has advanced diagnostic capabilities. It can detect installation problems or run-time errors. It reports them to the handheld monitor and takes appropriate corrective action. Some of them are short circuit, over temperature, failed switch, open wire, overload, or no load diagnostic.

The IC660BBD020 is compatible with Terminal Assembly IC66*TSD020 version C or later. It is not compatible with any version of IC66*ELD020 or IC66*EBD020 versions A to E Electronics Assemblies. However, these assemblies can get an upgrade to work with IC660BBD020. Any handheld monitor can be used with this block except for IC66*HHM501, which requires some configuration. The IC660BBD020 has some installation restrictions. For example, it must be installed in areas that are clean and free of airborne contaminants and with adequate cooling airflow. It can be mounted right-side up or upside down. Emphasis should be given to grounding due to the block’s mounting screws. A reliable ground system using a short wire lead is necessary.

The GE Fanuc Genius I-O IC660BBD020 DC Source I/O Block is a solid-state electronic module whose main role is to serve as a connection and control interface between a GE Fanuc Series 90-30 PLC and field devices such as electromechanical sensors and actuators. The GE Fanuc IC660BBD020 DC Source I/O Block is able to provide the power supply voltage needed for the operation of 16 I/O circuits connected to its terminals, and a 24 to 48 Volts DC power source is used for feeding the block itself. Each of the 16 independent I/O circuits that can be controlled and monitored using this I/O block has a corresponding LED indicator light that will show the status of the load being connected to the I/O port assigned to it. The final users can decide if the I/O block should be used as an input block, an output block, or as a combination of both inputs and outputs.
 

The GE Fanuc IC660BBD020 DC Source I/O Block has several diagnostics features that are available and functional out of the box. The over-temperature diagnostics features will turn off the I/O block any time the temperature goes over 100 degrees Celsius. Short circuit protection is also provided by the GE Fanuc IC660BBD020 DC Source I/O Block for shutting the faulty circuit down in microseconds after detecting a current level above 10 Amps at any port. Other diagnostics features include failed switch detection, open-wire detection, overload, and no-load detection. The wiring coming from or going to the field devices connected to the I/O block is simply screwed into one of the properly identified I/O ports on the block and then it is ready to be used.

IC660BBD020 is a Phase B GE Genius block and is compatible with all GENIUS supported PLC systems. The earlier version, IC660CBD020, is a Phase A GE Genius Block, and is only compatible with Series Six and Series Five PLCs.

The final letter in the part number (ex. IC660BBD020K) indicates the revision. Revision K and later use the newer style electronic housing and therefore need the newer style plastic door and may indicate some compatibility issues with the terminal strip.
