Product Description

General: The IC660BBA021 is a 24/48 volt DC RTD Input Block from the GE Fanuc Genius I/O Series. This block monitors temperature input from Resistive Temperature Detectors (RTDs). The IC660BBA021 block groups input circuits in three rows, each with two circuits.

Input Circuits: Each input circuit can be used with RTDs made from platinum, nickel, or copper. It has sensors in place to report input data to the CPU in engineering units of tenths of degrees Celsius, tenths of degrees Fahrenheit, tenths of Ohms, or counts, depending on how it is configured.

Calibration: The IC660BBA021 is factory-calibrated to detect temperature variations as low as one-tenth of one degree. Because it is factory-calibrated, it does not require subsequent recalibration.

Resistance: The IC660BBA021 measures resistance from 0 to 5,000 ohms. Values for parameters can be set such as input filter time, alpha type, alarm thresholds, linearization, and RTD resistance.

Measures: The IC660BBA021 is 8.83” (22.44cm) high, 3.5” (8.89 cm) wide, and 3.94” (10 cm) deep. Unit OK and I/O Enabled LEDs conveniently display block status.

Troubleshooting: Diagnostic software in the IC660BBA021 automatically captures the reasons for installation or run-time errors. These errors might be electrical shorts, wiring mistakes, range threshold violations, or alarm conditions. To facilitate troubleshooting, they trigger abbreviated but easily understandable messages such as “Overrange”, “Input Shorted”, “Internal Fault detection”, “Overrange and Underrange”, as well as High and Low input alarms on a handheld monitor. Fault reporting can be enabled or disabled circuit by circuit.

Note: Severe radio frequency interference in the environment (10 V/m or higher as described in IEC 801-3 of 1984) will degrade the accuracy of block measurements without generating error messages. It is important to note that the IC660BBA101 is identical to the IC660BBA021 block except it features a power supply capable of working with a higher voltage range (115 VAC/125 VDC).

The IC660BBA021 input block is an RTD input block that has been designed and manufactured by GE Fanuc in the Genius I/O series. It comes with 6 input channels and it has a resolution of 0.1 degrees Celsius for each input channel. This input block also has 2 circuits, each of which can support 3 inputs. The IC660BBA021 RTD input block supports both block to block isolation and group to group isolation. The input block’s block to block isolation rating is 1500 Volts and its group to group isolation rating is 300 Volts. The IC660BBA021 RTD input block runs on a block power voltage rating of 12 to 24 Volts DC. It weighs 4 pounds and its dimensions are 9 x 3 x 4 inches. This RTD input block is designed to be as light and compact as possible without sacrificing any of its power or reliability.

The GE Fanuc Genius I/O IC660BBA021 RTD input block is used to monitor the temperature ratings that it receives from other RTD input blocks in the Genius I/O system. It can work with nickel RTDs, copper RTDs, or platinum RTDs. This input block comes with diagnostics software that can detect wiring errors, electrical shorts, and range threshold errors such as overrange errors and underrange errors. If the IC660BBA021 RTD input block is connected to a handheld monitor or HHM, this monitor can receive alarm messages that are sent to it by the diagnostics software. Each individual input on the block can be enabled to generate fault reports, or disabled from doing so.

Configure CPU Redudancy
Description: When in redundancy mode configuration, you cannot select standby or none.
Resolution: This is a typo in the manual. "Hot Standby" only applies to output data so the block will know that it can receive outputs from two different bus controllers.

Customer Questions and Answers

  • Question:  What is an IC660BBA021?  Answer:  The IC660BBA021 is a 24/48 VDC RTD Input Block from the GE Fanuc Genius I/O Series. This block monitors temperature inputs from Resistive Temperature Detectors (RTDs).
  • Question:  What is the difference between IC660BBA021 and IC660BBA101?  Answer:  The only difference between these blocks is their power supply.
  • Question:  Can I use the IC660HHM501 Hand Held Monitor for the configuration of IC660BBA021?  Answer:  Yes, you can.
  • Question:  What should the baud rate be set at when configuring this block?  Answer:  It should be set at 153.6K standard.
  • Question:  When I press the leads against "in" and "return", what should be happening?  Answer:  You should be looking for a reading and if all the values of all your settings are the same then all your reading should be the same. (Tip: Make certain that all the screws are screwed down very tight to make sure the connections can happen accurately.)
  • Question:  When you have the CPU in run mode, what should happen?  Answer:  The Enabled LED should come on to let you know the block is enabled. This also means that the port is communicating. It lets you know the block is working properly and if you want to, you can force the inputs and outputs off or on using Proficy Machine Edition.
  • Question:  What would indicate something is wrong with my IC660BBA021?  Answer:  If you power it up and it doesn't have any lights on at all, then your IC660BBA021 may need repair

For more information on the IC660BBA021 RTD Input Block of the GE Fanuc Genius I/O Series, please see the Datasheet User-Manual.

The final letter in the part number (ex. IC660BBA021K) indicates the revision. Revision K and later use the newer style electronic housing and therefore need the newer style plastic door and may indicate some compatibility issues with the terminal strip.
