CPU Processor CPU500 Series Five Central Processing Unit PLC IC IC655CPU5 IC655CPU50
The GE Fanuc IC655CPU500 CPU is the CPU for the GE Series Five PLC. The IC655CPU500 CPU must be mounted adjacent to the power supply module in the base unit in the PLC. The IC655CPU500 CPU plugs directly into the backplane and it is held in place by 2 screws that are located at the top and the bottom of the module. Access to the user devices is provided by means of hinged doors located on the front of the CPU module. A memory module inside the CPU contains the user program which executes the programming instructions created through the Logicmaster 5 software. Timing is extracted from the internal clock of the CPU. This timing allows for the execution of ladder relay one-word functions.
A mode select switch on the front of the IC655CPU500 CPU can be used to select between the different operating and stopping modes. Eight LEDs located on the top of the module provide a visual indication of the system operation process. An RS-232 serial port with a 15-pin connector is provided on the front of the CPU module for interfacing with the Operator Interface Unit (OIU). Additionally, a serial port with a 25-pin connector which supports RS-232 and RS-422 communication is also provided which can be used for programmer interfacing and for general communications. The communication port settings are set through DIP switches located on the module’s front. The memory cartridge is also installed in a slot located on the front of the module. The dimensions of the memory cartridge are 0.5 x 2 x 3 inches. The IC655CPU500 CPU can be reset by pressing the red pushbutton located below the DIP switches.
