The 1747-BSN module by Allen Bradley falls into the SLC 500 Backup scanner module category. It is fitted with redundancy for Remote I/O (RIO). This module has the ability to switch channels in order to simplify communication with devices including operator interfaces. It includes a DH+ link, allowing the first channel on this unit to be configured as either RIO or DH+. The second channel can take over from the RS-232/485 and replace it, to keep a continuous connection to the operator’s electronic interface. These two channels (DH+ or RIO and RS-232/485) may also be used alongside each other.
This module is built as a primary module, stationed in the center of the main system, with a set of complementary units as the secondary system built around it. This unit’s remote I/O operations are all controlled by the center module in this configuration, while the group of secondary modules will instantaneously take control of the operation in case the central module malfunctions.
To write retentive data to the secondary processor from the primary processor, a High-Speed Serial Link (HSSL) is provided. Additionally, this unit contains a Local Serial Link (LSL) to communicate status data to several different 1747-BSN modules that all reside together in the same chassis. This unit’s backup current consumption at 5 Volts is approximately 800 mA.
At approximately 0.9 grams (2 pounds), this module’s size is around 153 x 153 x 76 millimeters (6 x 6 x 3 inches). It should not be placed in an environment lower in temperature than 0 degrees Celsius or higher than 60 (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit). Likewise, it is unsafe to store it in a temperature zone that exceeds the minimum of -40 degrees Celsius or the maximum of 85 degrees (-40 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit).
