The Allen Bradley 1746-OB16E is an SLC 500 electronically protected current sourcing DC digital output module. It is comprised of 16 electronically fused DC outputs, capable of resetting automatically. It operates on 10 to 30 Volts of DC and has a backplane current load of 135 mA at 5 Volts. The 1746-OB16E has a 1 millisecond time delay for both OFF and ON states and it leaks a maximum of 1 milliamp when in OFF state. It has 0.15 Watts per point with 0.675 Watt thermal dissipation, making 6.9 Watts in total. It also has 2 Amps of surge current per point for 10 milliseconds. The 1746-OB16E is designed specifically to protect the module from overloads and short circuits; this protection is guaranteed by its auto reset operation. An overloaded or short circuited output channel will limit the current within milliseconds of reaching its thermal cut-out temperature. The other channels remain operational under the direction of the processor module. During this time, the output channel cools below the cut-out temperature and allows for auto reset. Protection against reverse polarity wiring, on the other hand, is not provided. Circuit breakers, fuses and other code-required wiring protection devices must still put in place since the electronic protection is not intended to replace them. To prevent automatic reset under overload conditions, this module’s overloaded circuit can be opened with an external mechanical fuse. The 1746-OB16E operates at a range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius at a 5% to 95% non-condensing relative humidity. It is optimized for industrial environments and can withstand up to 2.5G of vibration at 10 to 200 Hertz.
