Other Available Revisions for the 1746-NI16I 1746-NI16I//A
The Allen-Bradley 1746-NI16I is an analog (high density) Input/Output module. The module has 16 channels and it operates at a voltage category of between -20 and 20 V DC. The 1746-NI16I draws a current of 125mA and 75mA at 5 and 24 V DC respectively from the backplane, it has an isolation voltage of 500V AC and 710V DC tested for 60s. The 1746-NI16I has a resolution of 16-bits. For A/D conversion, the module uses the Sigma Delta method. The 1746-NI16I has a maximum of 20.5 V common mode voltage range which can also be calculated by +/-10.25V from the analog common terminal (relative).
The 1746-NI16I has an input resistance rating of 249 ohms, a voltage input (max. without damage) rated at +/-8V between the input terminal and the analog terminal and it has a maximum current input rated at +/-30mA between the input and analog terminal. The 1746-NI16I analog input module detects an open circuit in less than 5 seconds, and it has a resolution of 640nA and 0.3% for input and display, respectively. The 1746-NI16I has a 360nA/ degree Celsius offset drift (input with temperature), a 20ppm per degree Celsius gain drift (plus temperature), and a module error (full temp.) rating of 0.08 percent and 0.15 percent (full scale) at 25 and 60 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The 1746-NI16I has input filter frequencies that range between 6 and 250Hz, depending on the module’s update time which range from 630ms to 18ms respectively. Additionally, the module accommodates 5 selectable data types; engineering units, proportional counts (-32768 to +32767 and class three user defined.), scaled for PID, and the 1746-NI4 data format. For wiring, the 1746-NI16I uses the 1492-ACAB which has a pre-wired RTB on one end and is either 5, 2.5, 1, or 0.5 meters long. The 1746-NI16I has a min. and max. thermal dissipation rating of 2.43 Watts.

The Allen-Bradley 1746-NI16I High-Resolution Analog Input Module is a high-density 16-point analog input module from the Allen-Bradley SLC 500 PLC series. This single-slot module is designed to receive and store digitally-converted analog data from input devices in its image table for retrieval by any fixed or modular SLC 500 CPUs. Each of the 1746-NI16I High-Resolution Analog Input Module’s high-impedance input circuits is designed to interface +/-10 Volts DC, 1 to 5 Volts DC, 0 to 50 Volts DC, 0 to 10 Volts DC, 0 to 20 milliamps, 4 to 20 milliamps, +/-20 milliamps, or 0 to 1 milliamps rated input signals. The 1746-NI16I High-Resolution Analog Input Module provides digital conversion for all analog input signals by using a Sigma-Delta converter, and it transmits this data to the SLC 500 processors as Engineering Units, Scaled-for-PID, Proportional Counts, or in the 1746-NI4 Data Format.
The 1746-NI16I High-Resolution Analog Input Module occupies a single slot on any of the fixed SLC 500 or modular SLC 500 expansion chassis (except slot 0). It comes with an integral Removable Terminal Block (RTB), which provides single-ended wiring for all of the module’s 16 current/voltage input channels. The power for operation is derived from the SLC backplane, which is provided by the +5 Volts DC/+24 Volts DC power supply. The 1746-NI16I High-Resolution Analog Input Module requires +5 Volts DC backplane power for operation and it draws 125 milliamps of maximum backplane current at 5 Volts DC. The basic module’s features such as input filtering, input signal levels, and data formats can be configured via the user program. Each input group is electronically isolated from the backplane, and it comes with 5 LEDs (1 for each input group and 1 for the module) that show the module and input statuses.
