The Allen-Bradley PLC-5-40E is a 1785 series Ethernet PLC-5 Programmable Logic Controller. This part is also known as the 1785-L40E. The PLC-5 series of controllers that the PLC-5-40E belongs to offers a wide range of possible communication options and the PLC-5-40E controller is specialized for Ethernet connectivity. This is why it can be connected easily to networks with SLC 500, ControlLogix, and MicroLogix controllers. For communication purposes, it is equipped with 1 Ethernet and 2 DH+ or Remote I/O connecting ports. The module uses the Ethernet connection for its web capabilities like web diagnostics, module information, and web pages. This module is installed in a 1771 type chassis and it can use any 1771 I/O module for expanding its input and output capabilities. These I/O modules can be equipped with up to 32 I/O points.
